I get it, but it seems pretty petty to me. I mean, that is the flag of the country they are living in... did they expect not to see it everywhere?

It's their business, and if they want to alienate a part of the people and culture there then there you have it. I'd think they'd change it, but I doubt it's like they don't know what they are doing and they are shocked by this.

It's an ad campaign... simmah down, it will change.

Do you also think that Switzerland's flag is "a bad marketing choice"?

Or what about the Union Jack from Great Britain? St Andrew's cross is clearly racist. Or the flag of England, with St. George's cross?

    lol this is ridiculous

    what an intolerant group

Is this any different from Christian groups calling for boycotts of Starbucks, Nike, and other companies over things they don't like? Or atheist groups boycotting Chick Fila or Target over things they don't like? This all seems like free speech and the free market in action. Or even less so, given that it's an internet message board. I wonder what kinds of things the media could report on based on the threads on this board.

In the international marketing classes I took, they went to great lengths to talk about regionalization when it came to almost every aspect of product marketing and sales. Some places don't like certain colors or symbols or words, so if you want to sell to those regions, you have to tailor your logos, color schemes, and marketing to the tastes of the locals. That is, only if you want to make sales there.

Yes, but that's generally an external concept, meaning awareness of your international markets that are not in your region. This is in their own country (though admittedly an international airline, the complaints are said to be from Muslims in Switzerland... though I'm also sure that others might/would be offended). I agree it still applies, just not in as dramatic a fashion.

Again, I get that some find it offensive, but living in that country, seems like there would be an ingrained understanding you're going to see the icon everywhere.

Questions: Is the airline logo new to the campaign, or has it always been such?

Is the offensive part the logo/icon/cross, or the verbiage regarding it? I would guess it's the image, but they seem to say that had they used "Swiss Cross" instead of just "Cross" then it wouldn't be so bad? That seems disingenuous to me, to an extent.

ATW, since your response to the banning of minarets was:

Rest assured, they wouldn't allow a cross in Saudi Arabia either and crosses would be treated the same in Turkey as they are in this article.

Even though I find those things to be irrelevant especially since KSA/Turkey are not the definition of Islam or Muslims or Sharia, but since this is your mindset I thought it would be reassuring for you to know that they are using the standards of those two states in complaining about this symbolism.

Moreover, I would not complain and I don't care about crosses, minarets, crescents, anything so your attempts to paint me as intolerant = failed. As George Carlin brilliantly put it, I leave symbols to the symbol minded.

Muslims care though. They won't forget actions against them. They won't ignore how the Swiss "People's" Party swallowed almost all of the extremist right wing and neo nazi Swiss parties. They won't ignore what Europeans know >> that right wing populism and xenophobia is particularly strong in Switzerland. They won't forget that in the construction of a FOURTH minaret, almost all Swiss Cantons drew the line. Well, when you draw a line, you start a war. So I look forward to the intolerant xenophobes of the Swiss and the intolerant xenophobes of the immigrants repeatedly ****ting on each other legally. They deserve each other. I take solace at least in the fact that the country does not like war, so it is a non-violent war of ideologies that is likely to leave the tolerant standing.

Oh and although it may seem appropriate with your ideology, don't worry, I won't ask about whether you have a personal connection to Switzerland or anti-Islamism.

    ok, here's something loosely related

Yesterday in the Houston airport there was a Muslim woman complete covered except for an eye slit maybe a half inch wide. I wondered how she got through security and what they made her do to identify herself.

I think people should put a higher level of importance on whether they like the flag of the country they are imigrating to. You really don't want to wake up one day and say "I really can't live here, the flag sucks".

Mathloom, no offence but you have no idea what is going on in these European countries. Have you asked yourself why the Swiss population are fed up with the constant demands of the migrants, that once their demands are met become exceedingly more demanding?

I believe multiculturalism can work in certain circumstances, and has worked when certain rules and regulations are followed.. Unfortunately the Islamic culture seeks to dominate the other cultures, especially when the population reaches the 5-10+% mark, and in most cases, chooses not to follow the rules and regulations that are set by the host country.

People don't just wake up one morning and become 'xenophobic racist neo nazi supporting fascist bigots...' There is a reason for this change in their mindset.

Parts of Europe have become no go zones for non Muslims. Violent crime rates soar, because people who have migrated from war torn or violent societies bring that mindset with them.

I brought this up before, but you chose to ignore it and just chose to call me your silly leftist names....

If you were to invite someone into your home to stay, would it be right for them to start making demands on your work hours, sleeping, eating times? The way that you dress, demand changes in your diet, removal of pictures and paintings that offend them, or do you think that they should live under your rules whilst in your home?

The unfortunate thing is many muslim migrants escaped totalitarian governments and oppressive cultures seeking a better life in the freedoms of western society, but have been held back by their own umma, (once again like crabs in a pot) who have brought the same totalitarian fundamentalism and their oppressive cultural rules that they fled from with them to these European safe havens.

It is an easy solution, if you don't like the rules and culture of where you are...leave and go to one of the 50+ Muslim countries as a refugee or migrant.

You can continue to call me anti-muslim and anti-Islamic, but I'm just anti-idiocy.
