Shania Twain, I don't care how attractive she is, made a mockery of live music with her performance, ESPECIALLY compared to No Doubt and Sting who actually played live instead of lip sync'ing. How awful.

U2 raised the bar last year. The Sting/No Doubt combo wasn't that good, but shame on Twain for that crap fest. I mean, she's getting paid a ****load of money to perform and she plays without the tape 150 nights a year. If you are not good enough to do the Super Bowl without the aid of a backing tape, you should NOT be playing. Period.

Super Bowl halftimes have always been a complete waste of time.

She did the same thing at the Grey Cup … except she was wearing a parka. :( ;) She’s got the right kind of music for the event, a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, up tempo and up beat. But I have to agree with you. Sing it live Shania! She’s been playing clubs since she was a teenager, so she could certainly do it. She has a reputation as a perfectionist, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Mutt is one too. Are they trying to ensure that only one version of the song imprints in people’s minds? There must be some reason they do it, and that reason may well have a marketing angle.

I wouldn't know how the Super Bowl Halftime Show was. I was too busy watching the SNL Weekend Update Halftime Special, which was freaking hysterical. I learned long ago that Super Bowl halftime shows are ridiculously overdone and laughable. Plus, the musician combinations they have are r****ded at best.

Twain or SNL? I think I made the right choice. :)

Don't these idiots realize that when they are dancing around and their breathing doesn't change it is obvious they are lip synching? I remember Britney and Michael Jackson of years past. Basically with these morons it is a dancing routine with backing music. If shania is going out there to dance I would rather she just dance and take off the jacket.

They do it to be perfect, but doing that makes her look really lame up against No Doubt and Sting. Just cheesy.

Yeah but, she’s done probably a thousand live shows in her life, so she does it all the time and could easily have done it today. Why, in this format, would she choose not to, especially when the acts following her were doing it live? Clearly there was no technical or continuity issue. I think it was a strategic choise of some sort.

(She did it canned at the halftime show of this year’s Grey Cup too, but she was the only performer, so I thought that maybe it had to be canned for some reason.)

I agree, Jeff, I have zero respect for her. I like how she just disappeared, though.

I also caught a little pre-game concert with Santana - live - and then the lead from Destiny's Child singing live - but not much, and then Michelle Branch (I had never heard her before) comes out in the middle and lip synchs a song, and then Santana and band continue with live singing - ridiculous.

Shania Twain and Michelle Branch proved that they suck.

Who wants to see a bunch of musicians anyways?

I'd rather have the normal halftime show in a studio with first half analysis. Even better would be a "PTI" mini-show like they did a few times on MNF.

This is sports. I want my sports. If I want to hear music, I'll tune into MTV2 dammit!

i was impressed sting could sing while staring at gwen like 3 feet away. i woulda been too busy slobbering. and god help me if shania had been 3 feet away in that outfit. i can understand musicians and stuff being pissed at the lip synching but i didn't really give a damn, i got to hear two songs i like (especially Up) and stare at her, both quality. gwen is hot, sting sang a song from the 80's and not any new crap, i liked it.

You would have been slobbering............? God

Did anyone forget our Houstonian Beyonce Knowles?

Next year, I'm pretty sure Destiny's Child will be at the Super Bowl...NEXT YEAR...when the Rockets will win the championship with their new coach.

Umm I watched SNL and saw a few bits of the music. I thought Shania sucked and No Doubt was good but Sting looked out of place. He sounded good though.

I got a new sig from SNL : "I will not rest until there is a black elf in that Keebler tree." - Rev. Al Sharpton (Tracy Morgan - SNL)

I watched the pre-game performance by Santana...they played "Black Magic Woman" that was cool...Beyonce sang live and was salsa-ing real nice. Michelle Branch lip sanc too...it seemed. I actually liked this performance better than halftime.

I made that choice too...it was damn funny. I wish they would put that much effort into their 90 minute show.

Beyonce looked hot. I hope Destiny's Child does sing here. More than likely they put on all the country acts to continue with our "hick town" image to go along with that crappy super bowl logo.
