Hey, Stern, you wanna sell your product, right? RIGHT?! Let the players be themselves. You wanna cut the gametime down? Make halftime only 10 minutes. OOPS, you won't; can't cut into TV commercials.
So let's get rid of the routines that symbolize teamwork, loyalty, and fun. THAT'S FRIGGING BRILLIANT NBA!
Why would we want games shorter? If one is so worried about the amount of time they spend watching basketball, here's an idea - don't watch basketball.
This is what I was going to post. All they're doing is being attention whores with the chalk, the routines, etc., when they get paid to play basketball. Less circus acts for me.
I don't see the problem with this. Its not clamping down on pre-game routines, per se. Players just need to be ready for tip-off within 90 seconds.
Excessive celebration is considered unsportsmanlike. It's similar to how players aren't allowed to hang on rims after dunks anymore unless there is someone under them. Shortening handshakes on the other hand.. is completely useless..
I thought the same thing when they started giving out delay of game warnings in the preseason games (Kings, Wolves, Hornets that I've seen so far) that the NBA needs to start worrying about more important things than starting the game 90 seconds after the PA announcer finishes. LAME. I want Shane Battier to retire and take over the NBA
