It's funny because JVG calls him the best shooter in the NBA but only used him occasionally when he was here. I remember that time when the Rox played in Milwaukee his rookie season and he had a lot of family there including his dad who wanted to see him play and JVG never let him on the floor.
Matt Bullard was always the one rocket who when he shot from deep, I expected it to go in. I was more confident in him than Novak. Glenn Rice was probably the best shooter we should have ever had, but it never materialized. So I'd say Bullard is number one for me. Horry second. And Maybe elie third. but Novak was certainly up there. He is pure.
I remember that but it wasn't because JVG sat him all game it was because they accidently left him off the active roster when they submitted the rosters that day. Pretty funny but that situation was a huge facepalm.
During one of Knicks' games last season, JVG was the commentator and he mentioned the reason why Novak is so good right now... JVG admitted Novak was weak defensively back in the old days, but is a capable defender right now because he's playng 3 instead of 4. He got size advantage at 3, and it helps a lot both defensively and offensively.
To be fair he was a massive defensive liability and doesn't offer much else other than being a shooter, though I still don't see that as sufficient reasoning for leaving him off of the floor.
I'm curious if both the tankers and non-tankers agree that they want Novak back. ironic...wouldn't be.
read heads.up explanation above. They accidentally left him off the active list that night. JVG wasn't allowed to play him that game.
He didn't play a lot for us because he wasn't as good defensively. He's not the same player. He's improved his effort defensively and he's more aggressive with his shot. He wasn't as good coming off of screens either. It would have been nice to see him develop here, but he's not really a guy you want on a team like this.
Yep JVG did say one of his biggest mistakes was playing Novak at the 4 instead of the 3. Who would've knew he would have been better suited to play SF? We had Battier starting there anyways I think when Novak was drafted here. Too bad he didn't pan out here but glad he's doing well in NY.
I don't remember Worrel mentioning that he was inactive during the broadcast. He also was in uniform, can inactive players even dress for a game. Everyone was waiting with bated breath for JVG to put him in, I said to myself what a dick JVG is for not letting him in the game for at least one play.
I always felt like this was his biggest problem as a Rocket. That he couldn't be a volume shooter. The reason why Kevin Martin gets $12mil/yr while being a crappy defender is that he could score efficiently at a high volume. Novak's problem was that he was unable to shoot enough to make 4-5 3pters a game. If he could've, he'd have easily been a rotation player.
he has to be in the 3pt contest this year in houston or else im not watching.. Best Pure Shooter in the NBA now..
I think that was the year when JVG had an epiphany about needing a "spread 4" to open up the middle. That's why they drafted Novak.
Congrats to Novak, but he was shootin' against the wizards. When playing against good teams, he's nearly irrelevant.
I remember him shooting lights out on several good teams last season. Also he is being contested on a lot of those shots so I don't see a drastic difference unless someone like Lebron or Iggy is defending him.
Lin made him relevant last year. Because Lin went out of his way to give him the ball. Ridiculous how people continue to undervalue Novak.
