I disagree with virtually all of them.

Bourne Identity is the only one I've seen (or care to see) in your top ten, and I totally agree that its at least a top 10 movie. The only thing that was lacking in this movie was the intensity of the car chases. I just couldn't get into a mini cooper in a car chase.

Spiderman = most overrated movie EVER. there sure are a lot of comic book nerds out there.

Undercover Brother should have been a big hit. I guess it did okay at the box office, but I don't see why it didn't do a lot more.

    ....

Barbershop at #54? As one of my buddies would say "you are high on crack cocaine!" This was easily the funniest move I've seen in a LONG time.

There's nothing else that I agree with or disagree with enough to write about....It seems like after electing spy kids or whatever it was last year the #1 movie you went with the conservative "critics movies" to put in your top 10 with the exception of a couple.

I just got finished watching The Salton Sea. I can't remember who mentioned it about a month ago, but that was a great movie.

I agree with SCJ - Spiderman was terrible.

I cant comment on most of the top 10 because they are not out on dvd yet (dont go to theaters for some reason). Good call on Brotherhood of the Wolf. Its easily one of the better movies I have seen and for some reason it has been overlooked by nearly everyone I know.

I would also likely have the salton sea in the top 10. (11 is close though)

Also whats with the trashing of K-19? Im not saying its a great movie but I at least found it enjoyable. It at least belongs in the upper half.

Well at least you got the bottom 10 right. ;) Kidding...

It's hard to make a list like that but I can not BELIEVE you put Analyze That at 93 behind crap like Scorpion King and Knockaround Boys. Geesh!!!!

    Engaging, per usual.

The absences of Bowling for Columbine, CQ, Bloody Sunday, Auto Focus, Spirited Away, Interview with the Assassin, Equilibrium, and Frida nearly draw me to command the Ghoulies on a rampage against your genitalia. But then what kind of precedent would I be setting?

Now, as for the rankings themselves. About a boy, Narc, Confessions, Punch Drunk, and Adaptation are benchmarks of an attentive eye for celluloid. Though, About a Boy finished below my top 20, it is quite deserving of high marks, and selecting it as the top film further displays provocative taste.

Of course, a clear example of the subjective guise of one's palate rests at #77. My top film of the year, The Rules of Attraction. While generally, demoting a film of such caliber would trigger Bruce Banner like rage, but dealing with a "love it or hate it" creation, like Rules, is the nature of the beast.

    Kudos on fab year, Rm95.

I am glad to see The Salton Sea so high up on the list.

I am talked about this movie many times before. It did not get alot of press but was VERY good. If you are a Val Kilmer fan at all, it is a must see. :)

STARS Samuel L Jackson, Robert Carlyle, Ricky Tomlinson, Emily Mortimer, Sean Pertwee, Meat Loaf, Rhys Ifans
    DIRECTOR Ronny Yu
    SCREENPLAY Stel Pavlou
    CERTIFICATE 18
    DISTRIBUTOR Momentum Pictures
    RUNNING TIME 1hr 32mins
    OPENING DATE December 7

Los Angeles had its Pulp Fiction, London its Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and now Liverpool has The 51st State. The only difference is that the star of this ferociously entertaining comic-thriller is an African-American in a kilt or, to quote Sean Pertwee in the film, "a large black gentleman wearing a dress" or, to quote the poster, ‘one mean mother in a skirt'.

We are, of course, talking Samuel L Jackson who more or less looks like he strode out of Jackie Brown, hitched on a sporran and made his way to Merseyside. As executive producer, Jackson has been quietly nursing this production for five years – and it was worth the wait. To see the 6'3" star pitted against a menagerie of Liverpudlian lowlifes – each thinking he (or she) is tougher than the next – is a sight to be savoured.

Jackson plays Elmo McElroy, a `master chemist' who has created a designer drug from legally available ingredients which he describes as "a personal visit from God". He's asking for $20 million for the formula and, having wiped out a drug cartel in Los Angeles, heads to Liverpool to ply his
    miraculous party favour.

Owing an obvious debt to Tarantino and Guy Ritchie, The 51st State wears its style on its sleeve and is directed with panache by the Hong Kong-born Ronny Yu. Like Rush Hour transposed to North-west England but with enough profanity to make Martin Scorsese blush, the film never lets up for a second, punctuating scenes of extreme violence with moments of slapstick humour. Ronny Yu, whose previous English-language credits include Warriors of Virtue and the inventively scabrous Bride of Chucky, encourages his cast to act to the gods. And the actors rise to the challenge. At one point, Rhys Ifans, as a deranged gangster, snaps, "F***! I'm getting on my own nerves!"

As Jackson's accomplice in crime, Robert Carlyle lays on his hard man act with a vengeance, while there is priceless support from Ricky Tomlinson, Anna Keaveney and a gang of skinheads who repeatedly – and ill-advisedly – attempt to get the better of the underworld figures they encounter.

If the film lacks the edge and freshness of its forebears, it makes up for it with a cartoonish exuberance that is positively disarming.

Did that many people really like Brotherhood of the Wolf? I am a Francophile and I found it to be terribly disappointing and not to be a very good movie in almost all aspects. Oh well.

I haven't seen most of the others.

PS - Isn't this considered advertising for another site?

Frida, Auto Focus and Interview with the Assassin are three movies I'm really upset with myself that I didn't get to see. Have you seen or heard (sure you've heard of it) of a movie called Inacto? Another one I'm really pissed I missed. If this was my only duty at Swirve, I'd have seen a lot more.

As far as About a Boy, I'm in love with Nick Hornby. So there you have it.

As far as The Rules of Attraction goes, I have a feeling that it'll move higher up once I watch it again. When I first saw it, I absolutely hated it and was sure that it'd be in my bottom 10. Of course, it didn't end up there. The more I think about that movie, the more I like it.

    Other random responses:

rimbaud, sure it's advertising in a way, but no more than what Chance has been doing. I know a lot of people on this board love movies and it'd spark discussion, so I figured it wasn't a big deal. If Clutch or anyone else has a problem with it, I'm sure they'll say something, and that's fine.

SJC, it's called Formula 51 over here.

Kilgore, about K-19, I just found the entire movie frustrating. From the plot to the horrible Russian accents (What's the point of speaking in a Russian accent if you're going to speak English? I'm pretty sure the Russians didn't speak English on the ship...) I just found the movie gross.

Yes Sonny, I did see all 105 movies.

Timing, I know we agree on something movie-wise. We can't be at odds on everything. :D

SCF, I liked Barbershop, it just didn't stand out like a lot of people thought. It was a very funny movie though.

And yes, The Salton Sea was great.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

I can't believe there is not one, but two, people in here that sort of liked Rules of Attraction. I can't remember a movie that I hated more in my lifetime...and I can't remember a movie I have EVER seen that more grossly misrepresented mankind, let alone college life, more than this movie.

Sorry, I was just messing with you. I refrained from yelling about you needing to be banned, but maybe I should have so you wouldn't have taken it seriously.

Wow. I've only seen one film in your Top 10 (The Bourne Identity).

I agree about "Barbershop." I think that should be much, much higher! Only a pansy would disagree! :D

I liked Salton Sea as well. I watched it after someone here had recommended it in that thread where I had asked for good "Whodunnit" movies, I cannot find it right now but thanks for the recommendation.
