I just got my SI issue yesterday, and they had a nice article about YAO titled "Really Big Show" "In their first meeting, Yao Ming stood up to Shaquille O'Neal" By Jack McCallum I could not find a link on the web though. My apoligies if someone already posted this...............
And he makes another cover...although on a smaller scale. There's also an article on his replacement in Shanghai...apparently he ain't doing very well.
I read the article and it signified the impact of the 4 (was it 5?) swats in the laker game - Shaq has had his shot blocked 12 times in 26 games. That should be telling all by itself! ~Radical Subjectivity~
lol..............he's doing this pretty much every time the game stops. He is too tired. He gets tired from one jump. He's not even making his free throws. His legs can't move. He is doing great during practice...won't help in games. He needs Cato or Collier to guard him. Then he can improve. ANWAYS Good job to Yao! He stood up to Shaq! He wasted all his energy!
I finally got around to reading the article...a very good read. Especially the article that follows it. It's about an American 7 footer (I can't think of his name) who the Sharks picked up to "replace" Yao. He's having a pretty hard time doing it. Another intersting bit, one of the other Sharks, I'm guessing one of Yao's former teammates, says that most kids over their aspire to be like Kobe, not Yao. The Sharks trained and played in a pretty ****ty place. No heat in the dorms where Yao stayed. No heat in the gym. The cheerleaders do their routines then run back to the sidelines and get in their overcoats. Again, a good couple of stories if you get the chance to pick up a copy.
Did you read the sentence describing Yao Ming's reaction after playing a team whose center roughed him up all game long? He said something along the lines of: "That is not a very honorable team." And it isn't mentioned who they were talking about. I'm guessing it was Miami or Orlando, where Yao Ming received his scratch marks.
