Congratulations, Carl, you beat me to it! I'm usually the first to bring up lifetime Federal judicial appointments as a reason to vote for or against someone running for President.
You should be used to this by now. This has been the Romney campaign tactic ever since the convention. Romney says something outrageously centrist on TV, and then the campaign walks it back in a low-profile statement a couple of hours later. It's simple, don't you get it? Lie to the people on the public stage so that they hear what they want to hear. Then quietly cancel the lie with a well-spun low-key statement a couple of hours later, so you don't tick off your extremist base. Rinse, lather, repeat.
Do you think that Democratic voter disenfranchisement will be a central and/or effective Republican strategy in these states?
Etch A Sketch is working it! Last night he throws the religious right under the bus (no abortion legislation while I'm president (but not really)). Now he embraces the individual mandate in healthcare reform. [edit] apparently Romney is pro-life again. From NBC News: "I think I've said time and again. I'm a pro-life candidate. I'll be a pro-life president," "The actions I'll take immediately are to remove funding for Planned Parenthood. It will not be part of my budget. And also I've indicated I'll reverse the Mexico City position of the president. I will reinstate the Mexico City policy."
Hum...could the President flip Arizona? Why Arizona may be the surprise of 2012 – the big Latino vote that you didn’t see coming A full 80% of Latinos say they plan to vote for Obama, compared to just 14% for Romney, and Latino enthusiasm is much, much higher in Arizona than the national average.
I don't know. The Republican Machine is pretty entrenched in Arizona. Ever been there? Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally conservative state. Don't know if there are enough eligible Latino voters to tip the scale.
It's a bit like Texas. You know the demographic trend favors Democrats, but there's uncertainty about how long that trend needs to continue in order to bear fruit.
Doubtful Obama will pull it off but where this will pay dividends is the Senate race there. Rich Carmona is in a dead heat on a race no one thought would be competitive. If the latino vote is out in full force, you could easily see Republicans lose that seat. And if they lose Arizona, there's pretty much no way they'll take the Senate.
And so it begins.... again........ You can only keep a wolf in sheep's clothes for so long.... Romney shoots himself in the foot more often than any modern politican that I can think of...
Democracy = "Vote for the guy I like or you'll lose your job!" http://finance.yahoo.com/news/ceo-workers-youll-likely-fired-131640914.html
The logic behind this when you parse it out is so mind-numbingly stupid. I presume by "new taxes on me" he means the scheduled expiration of the Bush tax cuts that was scheduled for 2010, has been in effect since 2003, and has been pushed off until next year (maybe)...I suppose this means that throughout the 2000s, he had previously planned to fold up the tent and liquidate his entire company in 2010....for the illogical reason that his own personal marginal tax rate might go up which doesn't really have any effect on his business whatsoever. Stupid statements like this make me long for King Joffrey's justice.
Thadeus, this is VERY common right now in both the blue collar and white collar job market. My best friend is a truck driver. The owner of the company at a meeting with all his drivers stated that he expects his employees to vote for Romney if they want a job. My brother who is in finance was told flat out by his boss in an email sent to all employees that they will have their medical insurance cancelled and cuts will be made immediately if Obama is reelected.
so are we looking now at maybe romney getting elected and if the economy keeps improving as it is he can take ALL the credit for it? thats the we way it will play out if he gets his mormon ass on the throne.
