No, if I did, they could watch Netflix, DVD, VHS, Amazon Prime, etc. It isn't like kids networks are advertising Cialis or Trojan. Edit: Deckard, I don't know how old you are, other than much older than me. No doubt television isn't nearly the same as it once was. PBS probably had more value when there were fewer choices.
Sam, I don't know why I respond to you ever. I'd rather help people in a tangible way. Every dollar spent is an opportunity cost. Every second spent doing something is an opportunity cost. Sorry if TV & Radio aren't near the top of my list.
Nope. Though I don't think most work nearly as effectively as they can. Obviously it would be difficult to measure PBS' effect on society. I can't tell you more than my opinion, just like you can only voice yours. I think PBS Kids has great programming, but private networks will pick those shows up just like they do internationally. Is it because of the commercials?
Romney had to win Wednesday to keep the media money train rollin'. At a blowout, everyone leaves and the stadium doesn't sell beer.
This was 20 years ago. I had a VCR that was hell to program, but excepting a couple of Disney programs, which only advertise Disney, they watched PBS. Of course only as much as I'd let them. We simply disagree about public funding of the arts, etc., which I value a great deal. You obviously don't. No hard feelings.
What a weird debate. I kept waiting for Obama to say "Jim, we have a problem here - will the real Mitt Romney please stand up?" He had about, oh I dunno, a million moments to NAIL Mitt for being 40 different people. Is it pro-choice-architect-of-Obamacare Massachusettes Mitt Romney? Is it millionaire-****-the-poor-and-hide-my-tax-returns Mitt Romney? Is it tea-partier-guns-and-the-bible Mitt Romney? He could have ended the debate with one carefully timed call-out of Mitt for saying whatever he thinks folks want to hear. But he didn't. So, in the spirit of Batman Jones, allow me to summarize... Republicans = horrible liars. Democrats = horrible p*****s.
