It's true that ESPN #NBARank is not scientific, analytical, nor taking "general quality" into consideration, but most players are ranked close to where they suppose to be. Chill dude. It's only a reference. The value of a player really comes down to his contribution to the team, the fans, and the organization. And then there are the intangibles that can't be measured accurately by.....money.
BTW, why is Lin still not 100%? The coach seems to say it's because Lin working too hard and there's a reaction. Is that it? Or he's just not in game shape? I think I need whatever drug Royace White is taking. I'm getting an anxiety attack! To answer someone's earlier question: Lin purposedly dropped 10 lbs. to ease the pressure on his knees. I just read recently that the pressue on the knee is four times of the weight. So by reducing 10 lbs., he reduced 40 lbs. of pressure on his knees.
Does "utter hogwash" really necessitate a "chill, dude" in response? Why is everything taken so seriously? If fans can't find common ground in their hatred of ESPN, then what can we agree on?!
Lin is eating his words because he said he is 100% when he came to training camp. He shouldn't say that if he is not sure.
Well there is a big difference between training at home and doing off season workouts than there are daily scrimmages during camp & NBA games. Likely he felt great doing all the off season stuff. When he came to camp and actually played intense basketball night in night out for 3 hours a day 5 days a week he realized he wasn't as ready as he thought he was. It's a matter of just getting his body and his muscles & most importantly his knee familiar/comfortable with the NBA grind. This is essentially what McHale alluded to.
Pretty sure it was his third training camp. Last season he was at Rockets camp (albeit it was a shortened one) and he was at Warriors camp his rookie year.
well nvm on the houston part. but according to wiki "On the first day of training camp on December 9, 2011, the Warriors waived Lin. He was a favorite of Lacob" "On December 12, 2011, Lin was claimed off waivers by the Houston Rockets." so no, no training camp last season too
Lin was in Houston's training camp. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/bWw5v9p91jQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And he played in at least one pre-season game. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IqykmzmOSV4?list=PL24A42A676307C6E2&hl=en_US" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
He said he's 100% healthy. He's saying his speed, agility and explosiveness is not there yet. Not where he was pre-surgery.
Lin ranked in the top 40 in PER and top 40 in adjusted +/- last year, either of which are better than ESPN's methodology, so he's already being paid right for 8.3 mil apparently. Also, I'm pretty sure young players in sports are paid more for upside. I don't see anyone claiming Kyrie Irving[2] is going to regress to the mean and it's no more likely with Lin, considering that he tested out with elite athleticism at the NBA combine tests and has a grueling, systematic and well-publicized off season training program. [1] This isn't as obvious in the NBA due to the rookie pay scale, of course. [2] The worst defender in the NBA last year according to Synergy.
