    From the Chronicle:

ESPN has anointed the Lakers-Rockets game as an Instant Classic and will air the game at 6 p.m. Monday.

    I don't really think it's a classic.

It was just a bunch of hype, that actually lived up to the hype to make it look good.

I wouldn't call any regular season games as "classic".

I wouldn't call any regular season game a classic either, but that game was about as classic as a regular season game can get.

I wonder if Golden State Warrior calls their victory game over Lakers classic too.

was that suppose to be funny or something.

Was the nation waiting with great antiicipation to see Erik Dampier take on Shaq?

This was a King Kong vs' Godzilla showdown and it more than lived up to the billing.

That first three minutes when Godzilla and King Kong went mono e mono -- classic!

that steve francis three to send it to overtime --- classic!

that overtime period when King Kong threw it down on Godzilla
    -- classic!

Godzilla with the last monstor slam to defeat King Kong- classic!

IF Rockets make playoff this year, this game will be seen has a huge one.......and hence a classic...four blocks, Francis' three pointer, Shaq's TOMAHAWKS and the final Ming Slam.

High ratings = classic in ESPN's world.

By designating it an instant classis, they are giving themselves a reason to show it over and over again. :D

Calling a game "classic" is merely subjective. However, I feel the Rockets/Lakers game was more of a "classic" than the Oklahoma/Florida State National Championship game a few years ago. 13 - 2?? That was dubbed an "Instant Classic", too...

The game was a classic. It lived to up to all up to all the hype. It was also the second highest rated basketball game in cable history, I believe I heard on ESPN.

I just looked on the ESPN website and it said the game was today (Friday) at 8pm central time. On ESPN classic. My Direct TV just says 'NBA' for 2 hours, which is probably the game. Just to let you know.

PS: THanks, Free Agent, for all your updates and articles bro! You're one of the reasons this is such a great website. :)

I try not to watch secular tv during sabbath hours, from sundown fridays to sundown saturdays, so I didn't catch the game. I plan to set my vcr for 6pm monday though.

    Thanks for the props, Severe.

I'm just a Rockets fan with a computer and no life! :)

Well, that's not quite true...a life with a wife who lets me play on the computer from time to time.
