What did yall think? I was expecting more from Scorscese..... Not all that it was hyped up to be IMHO. *yawn*
I really liked it. The accents could have been much better (Leo DiCaprio never could seem to decide if he was American or Irish), but outside of that, I enjoyed myself. Daniel Day Lewis was outstanding.
Hey, if you didn't like it, here are some opinion-based facts: This was DDL's best role in a film ever. Anyone remember The Crucible? C'était horrible. This is his first real chance at an Oscar. Leo wasn't the best guy for his character, but at leastit was a lot better than The Man in the Iron Mask. I mean who could like Titanic either? Mainly, he sucked in GoNY because he didn't die. Cameron Diaz I don't think was a great choice. I just don't think Leo and Cameron can mesh in a film together. Nothing speciall about her part, but at least she can show you that she has a "serious acting side". Something About Mary is still her best. And finally, Martin Scorscese. This will most likely give him some kind of award. Sure it may have seemed somewhat disappointing, but the acting was mostly good. The plot was brilliant, although the story line wasn't. It's true, Scorscese could've done more, but this movie was probably butchered itself in the 2-3 years in just filming it.
Daniel Day-Lewis was GOD in that movie. I have nothing else to say on the subject. I might go see it again just for him.
Sure DDL may have been okay in this flick, but it was too damn long. Almost 3 hours, just to lead to a strange, confusing ending. People walked out of this movie when I watched it.
I haven't seen it, but friends of mine who have all say it was way too long and way too bloody. I love Scorcese's films, but I think I will wait for this one to hit the video store.
p*****s. RM95's Girl and I heard that it was extra gorey too, but it wasn't bad at all. It had nothing on Saving Private Ryan. BTW, I liked the movie a lot. Not as much now as I did whenever I first saw it, but I'd recommend it. BTWpt.2, Swirve.com's top movies of the year come out Saturday. I have no clue what's going to be number one...this has been an awesome year for movies.
Possibly top 10, but probably not. Definitely not #1. There's about a 33% chance that you'll be extremely disappointed with my pick.
I thought the movie was great until 2/3rds through. Then it just fell apart. I felt the last third was too rushed, trying to fit the personal vengeance story with the draft riots....I usually don't say that a 2 hr 45 minute film is too short, but it needed another thirty minutes. Daniel Day-Lewis' character was fascinating, though, and the actor deserves the Oscar. Unbelievable performance.
Yes he did. BTW, can people please stop giving away what happens in new movies (ahem . . . A Train). Some of us might actually want to be surprised.
