I knew you guys would be talking about this... since I saw it on USA TODAY. What's the #)*%^@$#(%*^ matter with stupid questions like that, during the season, in the apogee of the pinnacle of our beloved TEXANS, from USA TODAY?!?!?! I wonder how they asked him... and of course he answered humbly. I know he's not just going to blurt it out without being asked. *We're in the middle of a great run, USA TODAY! Stop asking dumb questions!!!
Just keeping options open; and also letting other teams know his options are open. If he says "no, I want to retire as the DC of the Texans", but then goes and interviews for a HC job somewhere, the team will question his true desire to be a HC. I don't want to see him leave either, but can't fault the man for wanting to do what he wants to do.
That fans still say dumb things like "Wade isn't a good HC" or "Wade is only good as a coordinator" is a big part of why he probably wants another job. There is a perception of him as a failed head coach when that isn't the case. He's been a better head coach than the majority of guys who get chances in this league.
lol if somehow KC get him as HC I would not mind getting Crennel to replace him, he's a beast of an DC as well
It's not about money. When we brought Wade on board, before he did anything, we gave him a $2.1 million dollar salary. According to ESPN, he is already the highest paid defensive coordinator in the league. And now he's turned us around to one of the premier defenses in the NFL, only sweetening his resume. We can write him a blank check and all that, but this is not about salary. Football coaches want to be in the big boy chair. It's just the way they are. No one coaches just to become a coordinator. He wants to be running the show, have the pressure, and get the credit. No fault to him for that. I'm very sure he's happy here in Houston, but if a good offer comes calling, I wouldn't be surprised if he entertained offers and maybe left. We just need to hope people think he's too old (and are scared off by his medical issues) and enjoy him while we can. Hopefully he'll retire here, or conversely, create a program of excellence that will continue after he leaves. One thing he has proved, though, is this team has the talent to be a great defense, and should he leave, hopefully there's an adequate coach under our employ or looking for a job that can continue to capitalize on our players ability.
Still wonder if he'd have found more success in Buffalo if he'd chosen Doug Flutie over Rob Johnson. I understand the impulse to go with the younger, more conventional guy--but Flutie was a good QB and Johnson was terrible.
I think he would have beaten the Titans in the playoffs if he had Flutie. Instead, the game was close enough to have the Music City Miracle happen.
IIRC he was getting an interview with Tampa Bay last year, but he declined that interview and decided to be with the Texans.
The players on defense want him back so they'll start allowing more Chris Johnsons to run 140 yards on them.
