Palestinians can forget about getting our support for their statehood unless they agree to Israel's demands that they be demilitarized and consent to a long-term IDF presence in their territory and controlling their air-space. Probably that won't be enough either.

why are the Israelis creating us policy here?

based on geography alone the usa shouldn't care about these 2 at all.

I've always wondered the reason why Israel has been FULLY SUPPORTED by the US. Ever since WWII they have been spoon fed. I understand the Holocaust happened and everything, but I honestly don't see how that can warrant the revoking of land from Palestine and splitting it up, giving Jerusalem (the most sacred part of Palestine), to Israel.

There is so much that the US does for Israel, even though all Israel seems to do is push their military around the middle east. They are like the spoiled brat kid who gets away with anything. They will intentionally kick you, and when you get upset at them, they go running to "mommy" (US) for help.

    Not true.

US didn't support Israel full on until the mid to late 60's. The turning point was the first sale of Hawk missiles which occurred around 1963, and it ramped up from there. Prior to that, the UK and France were much stronger supporters of Israel than the USA.

USA freaked out at UK, Israel, and France during the Suez War. Nasser's open love affair with a disinterested Soviet Union and rejection of a US alliance during the lead up to that war had a lot to do with the change. Sale of Hawk missiles in 1963 started the shift towards Israel (obviously there were strong supporters before, but equally there were as many forces against support in the government). Full on support wasn't in effect until mid 1960's.

I think the Palestinians should look to more nonviolent means of resistance but I think for them to demilitarize is a big mistake. For one it is impossible since there is no central control among the Palestinian population. If the PA demilitarizes it's not likely Hamas, Hezbollah and etc. will go along. Second is while Israel is still building settlements and taking Palestinian land, sometime in skirting its own laws to do so, there is no guarantee at all that the Palestinians will be left in peace if they demilitarize.

That ship has sailed. The last thing King Abdullah wants now is to incorporate huge numbers of Palestinians into the kingdom. His power comes from a different group altogether, and they're having enough trouble with the Palestinians they have, who outnumber them as it is, IMO.

I see. Unfortunately I was never taught this in school :(. In fact I was born in 1989, so I have very little knowledge of the world between WWII and Vietnam.

We'll give you a cat, but you have to shave it, cut off the whiskers + tail, put a piece of cloth in it's mouth to make sure it doesn't meow, and we'll need to implant it with a punitive collar in case we don't like what it does.

    It's all yours!
