I hate to get every one riled up this morning, but I have been wondering this for a while and I just would like everyone's "tasteful" opinion. Do you think the uproar over the K-Mart parking lot raid would have been the same if most of those kids were black. Me personally, I seriously doubt it. I apologize if this has already been discussed.
Because I can search and you can't. Here is a present for you: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39752
I would have to dig through the Chronicle archives, but I believe, that a great number of those that were arrested were asian and hispanic. As far as the uproar, with Quanal X being the voice of African American rights and atrocities in Houston, it is very possible that could have been the case. However, HPD screwed up on this one and therefore, the uproar was already bad enough to begin with. I couldn't see it being too much worse.
Thats my point, I don't think it would have been as big. I think it would have been a more "those kids got what they deserved attitude" instead of a "their civil rights were violated attitude".
Hmmm.....I would have to assume that this picture is a representative sample, unless the the police segregated the "arrestees." They appear to be mostly black and hispanic. I think I do see one white face in the crowd. That makes me want to question your motives......wait, now I'm the one being deceptive. I don't question your motives; I know damn well what they are. You subscribe to neo-McCarthyism. If you keep screaming the The Big Lie long enough, people will start to believe some of it. I guess you think you're trying to perpetuate the "white guilt" you think is so well deserved. All you're really doing though is perpetuating racism.
My motives are simple, "WHAT DO YOU THINK". I have seen those kids on Westheimer, I know it is a pretty diverse crowd. I said mostly black. There is know hidden code in my posts.
As stated by Pole, I seem to remember a good portion of them were minority kids and a large portion of them were black. To directly answer your question directly, I think that if it were a majority black then the uproar would have been even more and been classified as police racism or profiling.
· I think you’re racist · I think you posted this question to further your agenda · I think your agenda is to “further the advancement of black people as a race” which on the face is a noble perception. Unfortunately, perception is all it is. The reality is that you take a victim’s stance that pits you against other races—specifically white people whom you’ve claimed to be in control of everything. Nevertheless, in your posts in this thread you’ve started, you’ve even segregated yourself from another minority—Hispanics. This is a dangerous precedent. What you fail to realize is that by pitting yourself against other races, you’re training them to push back. In effect: · I think you’re perpetuating racism · I think that too many blacks are being raised in a “victim’s” culture and that it’s bringing too many of them down. Sadly, I’m sure it makes it more difficult for those who truly are trying to better themselves. You constantly ask for a “level playing field” through one side of you mouth while you ask for devices (affirmative action, reparations, etc.) that tilt the field in your favor out of the other side of your mouth. This creates resentment. Again, you’re coercing people to fight against you with these tactics, so in effect, you’re creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that almost justifies your position. · I think I’m sick and tired of always hearing how “bad” I am for the color of my skin. I KNOW I’m sick and tired of the American people accepting this culture of deriding whites to help further the advancement of blacks. Insinuating that innocent people who were arrested were actually treated better than they would have been had they been black is actually more innocuous than many of the posts I’ve seen here lately, but the innuendo is the same. · I think I’m going to start making as much noise on this subject as I’m always hearing. The world needs to hear an opposing view, and I pledge to provide it.
+ Well if you think I am coercing people to fight against me, then you must be very weak because you have fallen into my trap. Ha ha, I now have control of your mind. I made you do what I wanted. You think you have figured out my plot, but alas the joke is on you. Whatever.
Actually once there is not a large business in that space and the parking lot is largely empty (totally except for Sonic), it will be less secure (no K-Mart security, etc). It is then that we have to worry for the safety of the kids which will congregate there.
Unless they are white, in which case I am pretty sure they would only be there engaging in late night bible study.
I may have missed some of the history leading up to this, but bottom line race is a sensitive subject, so why would any one attempt to lure another into a "trap" on a subject such as this is completely beyond me. I will just say there is a lot of validity to what Pole stated. I went to a predominately black HS and more than half of my friends are minorities, and many (not all) of them would likely agree with what he said as well. To "trap... plot... joke" at all on a subject dealing with race is a losing proposition to more than just those who partake in the conversation.
For the record, the reason I was thinking about it recently, is because of ex Police Chief Bradford's trial starting this week. If you remember this was part of the fall out from the K-Mart raid.
Absolutely, my cousin is a Sgt in Special Ops and they were originally on the case. Now if you want to talk about the raid, there was a lot of things going on behind the scenes on that and officer Aguirre was in a lose / lose situation. Bradford knew it, as did many others. What his problem was Aguirre should have said no to the assignment, as did others and make a report stating why he did not take it. That entire thing is a mess and there will be more than one head to roll on that. Bradford made the ultimate mistake in lying, so there should be little sympathy for him. That just was not smart.
I agree with you on the lying. If they tried to fire him for cursing at a subordinate, I think they would have had a hard time. He should have just admitted it.
