More trash that belongs in the thread conveniently titled "2012 Presidential Election: Romney vs. Obama."

He's rich. I think most people knew what he was doing with his companies, trying to make as much money as possible. Is that not what most of us do? I don't know very many people who say, "meh, I am okay with what I made, I think I'll just stop being successful now." Maybe some of the un-driven and lazy people do, but the motivated, driven, and ambitious are never satisfied. Maybe we should stop teaching our kids to be content and teach them to strive for the best.

Actually, Mitt was content with his consultant job and wasn't going to take the private equity position until the consulting firm guaranteed that he could have the old job back if the private equity thing didn't work out.

He was also content to leave the private equity business somewhere around 1999, before that line of work really blew up. Had he stayed, he would most likely have been a multi-billionaire by now.

Nope. I think there are many people that prioritize happiness over being rich. There are others that prioritize integrity and reputation over wealth. And there are still others that prioritize people, like their family and friends, over money.

There are only a small minority that prioritize money over everything else in the world, including their families, moral ethics, and personal responsibility. These individuals usually fall into extreme philosophies like Objectivism.

So no, I disagree with your assertion.

It depends. Companies can make decisions that benefit the short term at the expense of the long. It's not all Bain's money upfront for the investments. He had to answer investors, creditors, and shareholders who might not care about a strong future company, but rather a good present payoff.

It has been up to Romney to defend the perception that Bain was some kind of chop shop run by Gordon Gecko.

Not that I believe that Bain is, but I don't think Romney has effectively resolved that Obama frame.

I wonder how much this fact fuels his apparent desperation to be President. He might not have any material comfort with amassing a ****load of money, but how he values himself definitely comes attached to his net worth and his net people worth.

I take that you changed the thread title?

People get laid off from good manufacturing jobs, then they get jobs at Wal-Mart.

    God bless America.

There are plenty of motivated, driven, and ambitious who don't take what people worked hard to build only to sell it off or burden them with impossible debt.
