http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2012/09/rockets%E2%80%99-forbes-believes-diabetes-helped-further-career/ Some part of Gary Forbes likely knew his life would change forever, but that reality did not fill his thoughts that day. He was given the diagnosis that he had Type I diabetes, the disease that took his grandfather’s life and had been such a part of his father’s. But Forbes was just 19 years old and talented, driven by ambition and possibilities. His thoughts raced not to the danger or even a lifetime of treatments he faced. He considered the NBA career he wanted and the secret he hoped to keep. That seems so long ago. When he describes those days, it feels as if he is talking about someone else. In many ways, he is. Long after his first reaction was to think of his career rather than the disease that could threaten his life, he has learned that they — and the treatment that is so much a part of both — are so inexorably tied one cannot exist for him without the other. Great story and insight. I hope he has a long life & glad the Rockets are giving him a shot. Awesome that he's sharing his story.
Yeah I think Forbes might be one of those surprise pickups that nobody is expecting to do much, but really has a strong season with this team. One thing he can do pretty well in McHale's system is shoot the 3, so there is a chance depending on what happens with Kevin Martin that he could see some decent minutes this year. There is also a chance that he never even makes the 15 man roster. We shall see... One more damn week.
