http://espn.go.com/nba/conversation...uns-channing-frye-indefinitely-enlarged-heart PHOENIX -- Phoenix Suns forward Channing Frye will be out indefinitely after a preseason physical revealed an enlarged heart. The Suns said Frye has developed a dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition discovered during an echocardiogram by team cardiologist Dr. Tim Byrne. Dilated cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle, primarily affecting the left ventricle, which becomes enlarged and can't pump blood to the body with as much force as a healthy heart, according to mayoclinic.com. Frye signed with Phoenix, his hometown team, in 2009 and has averaged 11.5 points and 5.9 rebounds in three seasons. He averaged 10.5 points and 5.9 rebounds last season. Frye has also played with Portland and New York during a seven-year NBA career.
Sadly i do think so...Dilated CMP is a bad disease to have and eventually the heart will fail...its only a matter of time and he will need a transplant...Poor guy...wish him and his family the best in this extremely difficult time.
Does any other league have as many heart issues as the NBA? I feel like we've seen several of these in the past 4-5 years, maybe not to the same degree but still heart issues.
Yes indeed, it is a very serious condition. Hope he can live a good and healthy life outside basketball.
Never liked his play style and thought he was overpaid and overrated. That being said, this is terrible news. How does something like this affect his contract btw? Does it still count as a year?
I immediately thought of Juwan Howard when he played for us in 2005. If it's the same virus, Frye should be able to come back in a few months. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2031683
