No worries about your English, it's great. ENT is a surgical subspecialty, just like Sleep Medicine or Pulmonology (both specialists within internal medicine) so either way after the PCP you are sending him to a specialist. The pricing differences depend on the insurance plan of the individual and there is no difference in the quality of care at all. I just believe that it's proper to begin with the medicine docs and then move to the surgeons when things become surgical. That being said, there are plenty of ENTs who do non-surgical management of sleep apnea. I do not have sleep apnea, but I am in medicine. Again, I apologize if I am phrasing things in a confusing manner. Just wanted to help OP recognize the signs/symptoms of sleep apnea and let him know his options in who he can see for evaluation and treatment.
Find a "real" ent and they will give you something that will definitely help with sleep, don't know if it helps with the snoring though..
feel like i get enough sleep most of the time. not too overly drowsy during the day or anything. guess just need to eat healthy and workout more as a start. good for you regardless.
I'm average size and my snoring has dramatically increased over the past year. I think I need to get my tonsils removed.
I'm a sleep medicine physician. You can message me or ask in this thread if you have any other questions.
I went to see and ENT, but he just got pissed about what was happening to all the trees around here and took off to go talk to a wizard or something. Did absolutely nothing about my snoring.
I made a thread about me feeling like I couldn't breath in the middle of e night. Turns out I needed a nasal decongestant spray to clear the airway. Never had allergy problems. I think this 25 year old carpet is causing it.
I suffer from snoring, which in turn affects my sleep. I'm constantly tired and can easily tell that I don't get a full night's rest. I thought I was suffering from sleep apnea, so I decided to pay a visit to my primary care physician, who then suggested I consult a ENT specialist. Ran some tests and it turns out I have a serious sinus infection blocking my nasal passages. Nasal polyps and all that jazz. Which makes sense given that I am constantly congested, sound nasaly and have a pretty bad sense of smell. I digress. They put me on some medication (steroids and other stuff), which helped tremendously. Great two weeks. Slept fine and woke up feeling great. I could even tell my sense of smell was returning. Since then, I'm off the steroids and the symptoms have returned. He mentioned a possibility of surgery but I read that even with surgery, symptoms might return? My question to you medicine people - are there any OTC type drugs/remedies that will alleviate these symptoms? I have no problem with nasal sprays but they seem to be hit or miss with me. Thanks!
