In the latest pre-season SN basketball issue, Hakeem is not listed in the top twenty centers. Horace Grant, Bryant Reeves, and Dale Davis are all mentioned as being better than Hakeem.

Also Dickerson is ranked ahead of Mobely, and Anderson failed to make the top 20 shooting guards.

Rudy T is the preseason pick for Coach of the year.

Francis is picked as the 5th best point guard, but behind Andre Miller (?).

The Sporting News has validated my assertions that Hakeem should retire, Dickerson is better than Mobley and SA, Steve Francis is going to be a superstar, and Rudy T rocks.

I don't give a hell about your validated assertions. Only bandwagoners read The sporting news to get Rockets blindsight.

This is Olajuwon's last year and if you think he should retire a year early and that Michael Dickerson's better than Cuttino Mobley and Shandon Anderson move your fairy ass back to Vancouver.

I am not sure that use of the term "fairy ass" is constructive in this discussion.

Who cares what Sporting news thinks about the Rockets. I could care even less about what they think of The Dream. You posted that so everybody can scream BOO-Hoo thats outrageous blahblahblah. But it aint gonna happen, we don't need some worthless magazine to validate Hakeem's worthfulness.

I've been watching the Houston Rockets since I was 13 and I'm now 23, so for ten years Hakeem Olajuwon has played a significant role in my life and his greatness does not need to be revalidated by some what-have-you-done-for-me-lately fantasizing bandwagoners.

I mean if your going to say, "Hey Look sporting news agrees with my assertions that Hakeem needs to retire now and that Dickerson is better than Mobley", or you not asking for it?

Nice emotional arguments. Unfortunately, our love for Hakeem on a personal level does not mask the fact that the Dream is not a part of our future plans, and he is damaging the memory of his greatness.

Willie Mays, Larry Holmes, and Robert Parish all hung around too long. We can now add our Dream to the list.

Wow- I'd have to say that the biggest surprise is Anderson. How could he possibly not be top 20? Wierd.

Booster. Christ. Chill. I don't agree with all of it either, but it's reactions like yours that make me not want to read stuff in the BBS.

But also a big surprise is the major props given to Rudy. Wow. I'm surprised anyone outside of Houston has noticed how we completely changed systems in one season. Here's an open question: how far would the Rockets have to exceed expectations for Rudy to get coach of the year? Doc Rivers got the honor for almost making the playoffs with scrubs. Obviously, the bar is higher for us. I'd say if we made 4th or 3rd seed, Rudy could get it.

Ok I have to jump in here. First of all, Dream is the Dream no matter what anybody says. You could go ask any of the top five centers (Dream being top 3) to ever play the game and they would agree. No argument there. Next, Miller will be a solid point for a long time, but he is no Francis. Period. Now the whole Mobley, Anderson, Dickerson debate, I am not gonna argue who is the better guard. I like them all. Chemistry wise, Mobley does fit with Francis. Just as Dickerson with Bibby. (Good for both parties.)

Alton Ford playing in his hometown. That would be sweet. Let's just hope given the opportunity, Rudy doesn't pass up on another local, future star.

    You have to BELIEVE.

The argument that "Dream is still Dream" is as illogical as saying that Bill Russell was once the best, so don't tell me he can't play anymore.

Its time for Dream to join Russell, Kareem, Moses, and the rest of the all-time greats- on the sidelines.

IF Hakeem can breathe and is healthy, then I would LOVE to see him play this last year.

If not, then he should retire, for his own good.

Dream can only play if he is healthy, and that is a big hairy question mark rigtht now.

    THE DREAM IS BACK !!

    Hopefully !

WOuld someone please explain to me the staying around too long argument. I just dont understand it. How does it in anyway diminish a players previous accomplishments or lessen the respect he should get after retiring. If they want to stay around longer that is their perrogative. MAYBE it just means they love the game that much more?

All Im saying is, there is a possibility that Hakeem may be godawful this year and may play limited minutes in limited games (although he could be really good again too). But if thats the case, thats fine. It doesnt mean he shouldnt be considered one of the best centers ever, cause he is, no matter how long he plays.

I dont know about the rest of the people here, but I am starting to get tired of, "Hakeem should retire", I ask you people why, his salary still goes against the cap, and yes it is salary that he deserves. He earned it, and even if he is hurt all season long, I would rather have Hakeem at 50% than half of the centers from that article. I understand opinions are just that, but it is tiring to hear how Hakeem should retire, let the guy play out his last year. Who knows, he may even surprise a few people, I am not saying he is gonna set the court on fire, but I dont think he will embarass himself. I am like alot of other people on this site who have watched Hakeem play since he started, and I would ceratinly like nothing more than to see him finish his career, in Houston, when he is ready, if this is it for him than so be it. I feel he has earned the right to finish his career up here and get his pay, plus the decision has been made, he is gonna play, so let him be.

The salary cap is not an issue.

The real issue is that Hakeem is not part of the Rocket's future, and Cato and Collier should get all the minutes. Hakeem is standing in the way of the Rockets becoming a better team.

If Hakeem loves the Rockets, he will become a fan like the rest of us. Maybe he will pick an alias and join us here. [IMG]

I am sure Collier at center gives the Rockets a much better chance at winning (sarcastic font).
