I don't assume he's going to be the backup C. I think Terrence Jones will play backup C unless Greg Smith has made improvements. Ppat is probably the starting 4 according to Jason Friedman. The Rockets said that Dmo could play the 4 or 5. I don't think that's (5) likely to happen much at his current size. He could backup Ppat at 4, but I'd rather see him bulk up and play 5 so that Royce can backup 4 and Terrence could play 3.
Yeah those were exactly my thoughts before the people in this thread made me second guess myself into thinking I was crazy..
Thinking more about it, and I feel DMO better play backup 5. White/TJ are 4's with height and skill more suited for occasional 3's than 5's. And 5 is the weakest position in the league, where traditional 5's are hard to find and players like Hayes/Okur had some success in the past. DMO's improved rebounding should serve well, and he'll be hard to defend for opposing 5's as well.
Thanks for providing me the segway. It's a Buffalo Bills and with what's in I'm sure it's a snapback. While the Rockets are my basketball team, I'm not from Houston and my favorite football team is the Bills. So its pretty cool seeing a Rocket wearing a Bills hat. Although, I'm sure he has it for the colors and could care less about the team.
When I see this pic, I think of "Amish Paradise" I'm a man of the land, I'm into discipline Got a bible in my hand and a beard on my chin But if I finish all of my chores, and you finish thine Then tonight we're going to party like it's 1699
I agree. I'd rather see Dmo at 5. He seems like a great competitor, but he still needs to add weight. His comparative small build/weight will make the average C's look good in my opinion at this point. It will come with time. But you're right - his quickness will be trouble for many centers.
Center... Forward.... whatever. Truth is alot of team are going to be playing two "True Power Forwards" off the bench alot this next season. If he's the designated "Center" on the court at one time or another than dont be shocked. Its all about matchups. He's not ready to tussle with the likes of a Dwight Howard, or Andrew Bynum, but if the Detroit Pistons are playing the Rockets and have Jonas Jerebko and Charlie Villanueva coming off the bench as their two post players, I think D-Mo will be just fine playing alongside Terrence Jones, Patrick Patterson, or whatever other PF he's playing with.
DMO right now is more Dirk than TD. Putting him at center would just stunt his development. Sure his quickness will make him a mismatch on offense but he's gonna get brutalized on D and on the boards. IMHO DMO should get the backup 4 mins, maybe he can play spot mins at the 5 but only if they have another dude who can play in the post and guard the other team's C, like maybe Terrence Jones or PP.
