He is probably embarrased that he won in the conditions he did, and not a clean match.. although the match lasted 5 hours. Murray wanted to win his first GS "clean" and the wind was a mess for the first 2 sets of this match. Although Murray handled it better Murray just doesnt like to be gifted anything on the court, i sometimes thinks he intentionally drops sets to wear the other guy down he is playing more.. to get them to retire... or try for a bagel. I remmeber when Murray used to get winded after 1 set, now he is probably a top 5 fittest guy on the tour Murray is an odd player, but very smart, can be frustrating to watch when you know he is holding back at times in the BIG points( he hopes the player will gift him the point), when he shouldnt be. He is still good enough to "push" his way through tier 1 events, but to win majors, he is gonna have to earn it. Also we didnt see the best Nole today, and i think Murray knows it
That's a ridiculous statement. He was not embarrassed by how he won. The guy won a freaking Grand Slam title--and against one of the best 3 players in the world. Stop diminishing his accomplishment
I have followed Murray his entire career, he wants to beat Nole, but not in conditions like this. Murray is a competitor to the extreme. Murray doesnt like to be gifted anything, you may think he is choking a match away againist a lesser player, but he is actually just extending the match for the sake of himself or to wear the other guy down in rallies( i know that sounds crazy). But Murray is an odd player, that rope-a-dope tactic doesnt work againist the big 3, but it works againist every other player on tour from what i have seen.. also Murray having a tendency to be a "pusher" has cost him at least 2 majors He is a weird, tricky player
So you're suggesting he could win early, but loses sets on purpose to wear the other guy down so he can win later? What is the benefit of that, in your mind?
Murray can beat the other big three now. He has improved his serve as well as his forehand. He is not as good as the Djoker, but today he was. Wind or not, nobody is going to be remembering this major for wind, but for the first British slam in over 60 years. He deserved it.
The average fan won't care about the wind or winning clean - they'll just enjoy the headlines of GB winning their first Grand Slam in 60+ years. But the top players hold themselves to a higher standard and look at things from a different perspective. He, absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, held back because of the manner in which he won. I fell asleep before the medal ceremony and don't care for off court behavior - but the sport of tennis, due to it's individual, persona-scrutinizing nature, is very much based on pride and earning the respect of your peers. Add to the fact Murray is a pusher who's quite comfortable playing in a tactical shell - and he'll take little solace from this win.
Murray played well, and I'm happy he was finally able to win a slam. I was pulling for Novak to win, but the match was a good one, and I wasn't really upset at all to see Murray win like that.
exactly I have followed Murray his entire career, and the fact that this was his first major title, he didnt wanna win it like this
