Not so bad. with the poor shooting from Frances, Rocket was still in the game in the last minutes. You could say, Rockets is a better team than Spurs .

imo, these two phrases are not correct..

There is no excuse for them to not be ready for this game after 2 days rest.(Sat,Sun) I dont feel that Rudy screwed up by leaving the bench in, they played a helluva game. If Cat would have stuck with what was working, we had a real chance to win this one.
but nooooo....Cat had to try to take over and shoot us to victory when he hadn't been hitting all day.

and it wasnt just the bench that kept us in the game, we played some really nice defense thru most of the game...the bench just provided the scoring that we needed to get back into the game..

chalk it up to another learning experience...:(

    Two quick comments :

    A) Gene Peterson called for the Yao/Cato set early in the 4th. He also went ballistic on Mobes quickie momentum killing clankers and was baffled at the subs and non-subs. Calvin and Bill show similar tone in their pbp. Our own announcers have seen so many stupid plays and ??? calls they can't bring themselves to spin it anymore. They just say, "can't have that" "hope they don't repeat that." "hope they learn from that".

    B) Something you apologists need to understand is why others are so upset to see the 'chise and the dynasty SIT in the clutch. It goes against the code. It's totally, completely punk, like a prison bitc%. It's absolutely revolting and embarrassing. It should make your blood curdle and you want to vomit. There is absolutely, positively NO EXCUSE for that.

    The real problem...
Cuttino always thinks he is MJ. The three possesions all of which he missed consecutively after we tied the game near the end killed our rythm and momentum. Rudy has no control of this all-star wannabe. The trend is the inconsistency, on/off season long. Pretty obvious.

    From Chron:

"We've got a really deep bench," Kelvin Cato said. "You've got Moochie (Norris), who could start on any team. We got me and Mo, who used to start, two legitimate starters. And Terence Morris has just not gotten that chance. We have a pretty deep bench that a lot of people don't know about, that can make things happen when they're out there. We're not just guys sitting on a team picking up a check."

Moochie could start on any team?

     ;)

Well then I'm pretty sure he's "on" more than he's "off", and I'm also pretty sure that he shot just about as well or better than most of the rest of our starters.

BTW, speaking of All-Stars, does anyone remember the date that they announce the All-Star starting lineup? And the date of All-Star Weekend itself?

To Thomas, excellent post about the pro and cons of subsituting for the reserves who brought us back into the game.

Good point also about Rudy's production from role players.

I still would have gone with Francis and perhaps Ming, as it is more important to keep their confidence up then that of the subs. Howeve, then you have the maybe Rudy was sending Ming and Francis a message, too. Tough call.

Since RT benching the starters why not benched the Cat too. If he wanted to use his bench units then he should sit the Cat down also. So unfair

Please explain why Ming had off night before 4th? His rebouding was there, shooting wasnt good but that has been the case for last seveal games. His presense inside again altered many spurs shots tonight, including one T.D's turn over. Defensively he would have definitely helped Rox in the last 3 min, and I dont think fatique was the reason for Rudy to keep him out. Was Rudy mad at Ming???? I knew Ming went out shoot a commercial on Saturday for a Chinese telecom company, while he should've been lying his @$$ down resting to recover and get ready for the Spurs game. Could this be the reason???

yeah, he shot a commercial for the frigging China Unicom.

To me, that's damn stupid timing.

Whoever made that decision for him should be castrated.

After the fakers' game, he seemed all spent. A good day's rest is a better choice.

I see your point. Now see my point. BUT have Rudy ever bench Hakeem and OT all of the 4th Quarter in place of Chucky Brown, Kevin Willis, Earl Cuereton, Carlos Herrera, and Pete Chilcut at clutch situations? That's just insane to me no matter what the situation was. Have you ever seen Kobe, Jordan, or any other great playmaker get benched all of the 4th Quarter in a reachable ballgame, especially the last minutes of the game when you need your best players in there? Rudy did not just bench one, he bench our TWO best playmakers. That's just crazy.

LIke I said, regardless of win or lose, it is unexcusable to not let you two best players, likely future superstars of the team, gain experience from a close game like this. Of course, if our bench pulled it out, Rudy could look like a genius and let Steve see that he isn't the only player on the team. Too bad our bench wasn't as good as the Spur's starters.

He not only blows, but has blown, blew, blows, and will continue to blow for a long time.

There are plenty of reasons to question Rudy's thinking, but he did the right thing against the Spurs. But, he should have pulled one more starter: Cat. How many times does this guy take ill-advised shots late in a game and it comes back to haunt us?

Cat and Moochie's shot selection are the reasons why MoT, who was hot as fire, did not get any shots in the last few minutes and why we lost the game.

And Yao really needs some rest. He's been playing for 2 years with no time off, he's gonna get exhausted by the all-star break.

I did not watch the game. I was out of town, and got back around 8:30, thinking it was an evening game. But looking back, it was a good thing that I missed it, because I would've been pissed off. I dont' care if MoT and Morris made shots doing back flips. You still gotta rotate your players and put the stars back in. I think Yao's hand in Duncan's face alone would have helped. And you know Stevie was eventually hit his shots...Oh well, it's just one game. I just hope they recover against Dallas. I was in Dallas this weekend and saw the Seattle game.. Dallas is beatable. Definitely. One thing about Stevie..To look on the bright side, this shows that you can't judge a player on one game. We all have our good days and bad days. Stevie haters and lovers are all confused right about now, jumping fences.
