After watching Cato's improved play this season - which has got me cheering for him for a change - and Yao's tentiveness around the basket from time to time, I have found something that Cato can teach Yao - regular use of the two-handed monster dunk! Yao occassionally dunks with one hand and sometimes two (the dunk against Atlanta on which he drew a technical was great), but if when he close to the basket, he more often slammed it home (with both hands above the rim) with authority, we would not be cringing evertime he gives a soft tip-back. Yao has a lot of talent, this is just one thing I hope he improves on.
That's like Amare. It will improve his field goal percentage and if he misses the dunks, there will be fouls called and he will get numerous free throws just like Amare. Yao is just too nice.
Well we have enough mean guys like Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato and Mo Taylor. The Cat and Steve both have attitudes but are nice as well...TOO MANY NICE GUYS! Jackie Chan!
Yes, Yao needs to develop a little attitude. He still plays way to nice. I believe that part of this is cultural and part of it is that this is still his first year and the NBA and its style of play is still new. He will get there though - and look something like this after his dunks -
if yao starts to dunk on people then china team will be very scary in the 2008 olympics (dont no if this is a good thing for us americans) but it will be good for the rockets. i think as he puts on weight he will get better spots down low and can dunk over people with ease cause of his hight and added pounds. i want yao to avg 1 tech every 3 games for taunting that would be great.
Yao just doesn't seem to have the explosiveness to dunk on a regular basis. He barely gets above the rim most of the time, even when he's right under it. It might be fatigue or it could be the extra weight he's gained has hurt his vertical. But he's not getting up high enough to dunk.
Seems like Cato has just developed into the team BRUTE. He really just looks aggressive going to the ball. Wish some of that would rub off on Ming
Agree with Cato going to the ball aggressively. In addition, did anybody notice Mo Taylor going for the ball with determined vigor?
Seriously, yao needs to learn how to play like cato during that fouth quarter against spurs...cato played with high level of intensity and determination...that's what yao needs to emulate from cato!
