Knicks finally unload Ewing to Seattle. The Lakers get Horace Grant, Knicks get Rice and oh by the way Vernon Maxwell. How do you guys think this affect the balance of power in the league this year?

I hate to see the Lakers get Grant...i was hoping Rice would sign w/ Chicago [IMG] ... This just gives the Lakers the PF they needed... It'll be odd to see Ewing in a Sonics uni

So much for edging out the Sonics for the playoffs [IMG]

    Ewing
    Baker
    Rashard
    Barry
    Payton
    is pretty damn scary!

but I have faith in our team too. I still think we will edge out Sac and Dallas for the final playoff spot [IMG]

Actually, Phoenix got better too......Losing Longley for Dudley is a clear sign that they've got Tsakilidis ready to play....So, they're the same, without all the injuries and a better Center situation......Now the Lakers win........But I still think the Rockets will make it.....Seattly will go 5th or 6th, Timberwolves 7 or 8th, we'll be 7th or 8th......top 3 will be portland, lakers and Spurs......no sacramento....

    1. Lakers
    2. Blazers
    3. Spurs by a game or two less than the blazers
    4. Phoenix
    5. Seattle
    6. Utah
    7. Timberwolves (if smith stays)
    8.Rockets

If smith leaves, rockets move up to 7th and Dallas take the 8th spot.....

I should let u know that this will be why it will be the webber-less kings when his contract is up......Utah get bashed wining just one game, thus the retirement of Stockton, Sloan, and following them will be Malone, Deshawn Stevenson gets to run the show gradually, and Quincy Lewis works his way in..........Timberwolves will have an overhaul, keeping only garnett, nesterovic, and Scerbiack..........Sacramento will start getting ready for the lottery....and Every season after the next, the Rockets will improve two places in the west each year....

Future is bright, downfall of Utah, and ascent of the Rockets.....

    Scary?

    Ewing - Olajuwon even
    Baker - Taylor even
    Lewis - Willliams Lewis
    Barry - Anderson Anderson
    Payton - Francis even

    Bench - Rockets edge (Mobley)

We have the shooters (Bullard, Langhi, Collier.)

    I BELIEVE.

    I agree Believe!

When these changes take place, especially when it involves a player that was once a highly touted superstar like Ewing ... opponent fans start to shudder and cast about for leftovers.

But, remember when a player is traded, his overall affect on a (different) team is sometimes overemphasized. Irregardless of his previous accomplishments.

First, as noted, Patrick is on a different roster and in this case, totally new system. He will need beaucoup adjustment time. Not only must he get used to the Sonics players, and system but here in the West we all play a nice game blend with bang-bang a bit, run-run a bit and frequently slip into a game of finesse with specific zones, picks, Iso's, pass-throughs, In-outs, clearings, set-breaks, etc....

Secondly, people tend to remember the Ewing of old. He is however, in the twilight of his career. He will be a presence. He will make some players change their shots, without a doubt. He'll make the slot a crowded closet when required. But, don't be looking for more than a couple wow plays a game from him. Seattle needs consistency in the center, not two or three highlights a night for ESPN. Mr Ewing will not be the answer for the Sonics.

Don't get me wrong, I think he will help them enormously, but how mentally tough and trim Vinnie comes to camp, and how consistent and healthy Patrick remains throughout a long season, maybe a more telling mark of their success.
