If the Rockets do not win an NBA championship within the next three years, will the team be considered a bust? Will Rudy be fired?
No and No. Are the Mavs a bust because they will never win a championship with their current lineup, no matter what their regular season record is.
I think Dallas has a fairly good chance to win the championship this year. They are a very deep team. That will help them if other teams have any injuries at all. I would have to say its between the Kings and Dallas.
are you sure about that? Nothing is impossible...hmmm...rockets 6th seed winning it all??? remember that?
Actually, I'd say the Lakers still have a better chance than the Mavs. The Mavs are becoming an increasingly bad defensive team (teams figuring out their zone D), are horrible at SF, and don't have a great bench. NVE is great, but Bradley, Popeye Jones and Najera aren't showing anything average even. This new French guy is intruiging. Anyone think he'll be geared up and ready to help them in time for the playoffs? I must say though, Mavs don't have any of the elements for winning a championship. They would undoubtedly be a new breed. Detroit had the Bad Boy, tough defensive team. Chicago had Mike and Pip, with their inside players also being rough and hard nosed (Rodman, Oakley, Cartwright). They could play man to man D. The Rockets: Dominant big man, superb D. Spurs: Semi-dominant big men, superb D. Lakers, Shaq and Kobe, in addition to a HEAVY dose of "it". They just have the swagger. Mavs don't have a dominant big man. Don't play good man to man D, and their zone looks busted recently. Don't have anyone tough outside of Najera. Don't have a rebounding machine. Who do they go to in the Clutch? I mean, Finley, Nash and Nowitzki are brilliant scorers, but I personally don't recall them being go-to guys in the clutch.
You must be kidding right, pele? Kings/Spurs/Suns/Lakers/Rockets all have better chance beating Mavs during a playoff. Mavs have no inside presence and no D, in slowed-down half court games during playoffs. Their overall regular season record is something nice to look at, but cannot get them anywhere in the playoffs. Check their records against WC playoff teams (top 8 plus Lakers), It's only 5-5 so far this season. Rockets have a better record of 7-6.
Nowitski doesn't get near enough credit. Did anybody watch the Dallas/Milwaukee game where Milwaukee beat them at home? They won that game because Dallas isn't a tough team and they beat the living hell out of them. It took Nash out of his game. It took Finley out of his game. Nowitski finished with 40 points and 17 rebounds. I actually spoke to some of the guys on the Bucks staff about this game afterwards when they arrived in Houston and they just went off about how amazing Nowitski is. His defense is his only weak spot but it's getting better. I don't know what this guy has to do to earn your respect.... not a fourth quarter threat? wow....
If great potentials don't lead to championships, I'd call it a bust. Three years ago, Seattle Mariners set the major league record in regular season wins but failed to even reach the World Series. Only champions are remembered. The also-runs are all dismissed as "bust" in our society. Are you taking notes, Rudy.
DAllas lost their third straight against Sonics..... just FYI here..... hopefully Houston will beat Dallas up for them to have a 4 games losing streak.... but anything is possible here......
So in light of today's debacle, does anyone have anything to add? Does Rudy deserve to be coach if he does not fully utilize the players he has and fails to get into the finals within the next three years?
He's 54. If we make the playoffs for the next three years, we better have improvement. We should at least make it to the 2nd round or Semifinals or whatever. As long as there is improvement and we make the playoffs. I don't believe we can win a championship, though. ? Unless we get another solid and consistent forward who can provide points and rebounds every game. MAVS are an awesome team and they just wipe out opponents. But they blew a 20+ lead against the Lakers and lost and they were destroyed by the Kings. I believe the Kings will win. They have beat all the good teams by... A LOT.
Are u kidding me?!Riguedeau is one of the top stars of Europe at the moment! Defencivelyi don't think he'll do much, but one offence he'll be playing point foward. In a couple of games(or tonight?!) he'll have adapted to the NBA and will help them a lot. SF is definitly not their weakist link anymore. ALA
I think it is fair to expect one championship every 29 years or so. I think folks are not respecting the degree of difficulty involved in winning the championship. It requires a whole lot of effort to just have a shot at it and even then relies a good deal on luck to put you at the top. I think if we're no sort of contender 3 years from now, we're a bust. But, actually winning the championship is no sort of measure. Are the Jazz a bust for not winning the championship, even though they contended for years and even took a couple shots at the Finals? Some, I know, say Yes if only because it is the Jazz; but I say no, they were not a bust; they were a successful team that didn't have the roll go their way.
I think the French guy will be good, but when was the last tie it took less than 20 games for a foreign player to play decent? Even if he does play well in 10 games, rookies don't fare well in the playoffs. As a Point Forward? Wow, the Lakers would abuse a rookie in the playoffs.
Well, at the beginning of the year Rudy talked about how he didn't know exactly how his rotation should be, and he was still getting a feel for the players. So I guess Rudy's out.
