Agreed. Francisco wasn't of any real value moving forward. As long as the player the Astros get back is young and has a pulse, I think you have to look at it as a plus.
Definitely not. You only have 6 months to convey the PTBNL, which means 2012 draft picks would not be possible.
The only thing I figure you could be confused about is the 6 months trading a draft pick thing... you can't trade a guy that you drafted during his 1st year after being drafted. So if you only have 6 months to convey a PTBNL, that falls in late Feb/early March...which is < 1 year from the time these 2012'ers were drafted
Yeah, it what kaleidosky said. Our PTBNL's this season have all been 2011 draftees that couldn't be conveyed until 1 year after signing. In this instance it should be a list of players that we can pick from (though you can't dismiss a international FA I suppose).
How often are PTBNLs based on SEPARATE lists, depending on how well the traded player performs for his new team? For instance, if Francisco becomes a major contributor for the Rays and helps them make the playoffs, would the Astros possibly be entitled to their choice from among better prospects, versus if Francisco does nothing? Just wondering.
I've never specifically heard about that in baseball; that kind of trade commonly happens in football. Flip side, I have heard poor performing traded players turning the PTBNL into mere cash considerations.
No idea. I'm not even sure on what MLB allows for performance based or achievement based trade compensation.

6-4, 170 ... pretty much makes him useless at Wrigley. If the wind whips up, off the mound he'll fall.
