I have a question in general and I didn't want to start a new thread . . . so here it is: why do some teams (i.e. the lakers) have that black horizontal line across the left shoulder part on their jersey? does it symbolize something? just curious, wrong place to ask, but I wanted to get it in somehwere
Usually it is worn in honor of somebody within the organization who has passed away. Could be for Chick Hearn, still.
I have another question. What does the "C" mean that is sometimes on jerseys where the black stripe usually goes. I've seen it in both hockey and basketball.
i'm pretty sure it's for the team captain. i think matt bullard was ours a couple years ago but we never had those little c's on the jersey.
He got carried away in one thread and kept repeating the line "up yours". I think the final straw was when he called Jeff a barbie doll. This was an isolated incident and it is unfortunate that we lost such an insightful contributor to one flare up. I've seen *much* worse flare ups go unpunished (RM95 and Timing come to mind immediately). I wish he wouldn't have insulted people the way he did, but I would love to see him back. I think he helps even the balance between the vocal extreme liberals and the less vocal conservatives on this BBS. There are very few conservative posters who are active around here. There are a ton of extreme liberal posters who are active. Without balance the discussions no longer are thought provoking.
Actually, that was just part in a long string of things he did. Discourse is great. I don't care if people disagree with others. The problem is that he took personal shots at people on a regular basis. If you check, I'm on record as telling people from both sides of the political offense they are out of line when they do things like that. They are. By the way, I didn't ban him. Even before I mentioned that thread to the other Admins, he was gone.
In my opinion, he was one of the top 5 posters in terms of post quality and intelligence. I recommend giving him a second chance, much like second chances have been given to other posters. Keep him on a short leash and if he does it again make it permanent. He adds *way* too much to the board to be banned for one flare up. Right now there is no balance at all between liberals and conservatives. None. Bringing him back will benefit all political discussions.
Why don't you do another one of those political polls...you know, the ones that always end up showing that the "sides" are almost equal in number. You guys are so silly.
I think he has a point, though, about the relative outspokenness of each extreme. Sure, polls on this message board have shown that the the political leanings are relatively even, but as far as those that are outspoken, the left far outnumbers the right.
He wasn't banned by Jeff. You insinuated that Jeff banned him and he replied. What else is in your case to "bring him back"? To send thugs to his home and force him to come here?

There are even more that I didn't mention that seem to lean conservative (Manny Ramirez, Buck Turgidson, ROCKSS, Isabel). Even more that I couldn't put a label on if I tried (Juan Valdez, AntiSonic). If you still think this board is wildly unbalanced and want more conservatives, maybe you should go post on a Fox News board. As for my "flare ups" without consequence, maybe you should know what you're talking about before you post. I've been banned a few times, and repremanded numerous times by Jeff and other admins. You're really the only one here that seems to have a long-term problem with me. I'm not losing sleep.
Tis true (much to my parents' disdain), although I am for gun control and taxes to the rich IF it will help out education.
