How about sending Hidalgo, Ward and pitching to Montreal for V. Guerrero. I know that Doggie's contract balloons next year but is still less than Vlad's and he has the real potential to replace Guerrero in their lineup for the most part. We obviously get the best 3 through 6 in the history of the game and a replacement to get us past the Bagwell years. Once O and Miller get paid the payroll is still under $80 million and you have two of the best hitters in the game and two CY candidates to build around for the future in Berkman and Guerrero; O and Miller. (Once Bidge comes off, the payroll hit doesn't hurt as bad.) Our line up would look pretty awesome for the next 8 or so years. Not to mention that the Expos get a pretty good hitting first baseman and right fielder to fill in the middle of their order. Does anyone think we have the young pitching to get that done with the Expos?.
what do you mean when you say, "pitching?" because i have to tell you, there is no way i give up guerrero for ward and hidalgo right now if i'm the expos...they'll get better offers than that.
Vlad is one of my favorite baseball players. I doubt we can do anything to get him here, but if we did, I would do some crazy stuff.
Don't worry it is still stupid. This idea has been posted to death. First the Expos do not want to take on any high salary that they cannot clear off the books after this year. They also do not want players that fit the above category and have been crappy for the last 2 years. For them to accept any deal like that the Astros will have to include Oswalt or Miller plus cash to help cover any salaries they take on. Now why the Astros would never do this deal. 1st they are not going to give up a #1 or #2 starter for better hitting. They already have pitching questions so they will not trade pitching for offense. #2 They will not be able to sign Vlad long term. He will command A-Rod type money and the 'Stros will never pay him that much. He will at most be a 1 year acquisition. After he leaves what will be left? A few extra million in salary space and a team with questions all over the field.
Maybe they know you. JK. I think we have 4-6 young pitchers that a team like Montreal would like to have. You could even include Hernandez as a player to be named later scenario. If he gets a clean bill of health later this year and pitches well. I'd give up alot of these guys to get Guerrero and maybe Armas back in trade.

The Expos would be crazy to not accept an expesnive crappy outfielder who was shot in the arm this winter, a cheap crappy outfielder who shouldn't even play outfield, and an injured pitcher in exchange for one of the best hitters in all of baseball! Let's do it!
Once for repeating................... There is no way the Expos would ever trade Vlad unless we gave them Oswalt or Miller!!!!! No one will take Hildalgo.... Even for a low-level A prospect.
Considering how little the Expos got for Colon, I don't think the value of Vlad is high enough that the Astros need to part with Miller or Oswalt. However, they will have give up quite a few prospects, probably 3-4 of our top prospects that are still making almost no money. Still, there's no way I would make such a trade from the Astros stanpoint. Maybe a mid-season trade if we have a real shot at the World Series this year, but definitely not right now knowing he's leaving after the season.
