Greene County, Virginia GOP Group's Newsletter Calls For 'Armed Revolution' If Obama Is Reelected

A monthly newsletter published by the Greene County Republican Committee in Virginia is raising eyebrows for including a column in its March edition that calls for an "armed revolution" if President Barack Obama is elected to a second term in November.

Among articles denouncing a University of Virginia initiative to implement a living wage for employees of the institution, questioning if Obama is "America’s Most Biblically-Hostile U. S. President?" and an op-ed slamming the GOP establishment with generous use of capital letters, RightWingWatch picks out a column from the newsletter's editor, Ponch McPhee.

In it, McPhee urges readers to encourage other conservatives to vote in November. He goes on to warn that the consequences of not defeating Obama, a so-called "ideologue unlike anything world history has ever witnessed or recognized," would be dire.

"[W]e shall not have any coarse [sic] but armed revolution should we fail with the power of the vote in November," McPhee writes. "This Republic cannot survive for 4 more years underneath this political socialist ideologue."

A disclaimer at the bottom of the publication apparently attempts to account for this type of rhetoric, noting that the contributors do "not reflect the opinion of the Republican Party whole or in part" and are only representative of the "individual" -- in this case, the editor himself.

According to the newsletter, McPhee also hosts a public radio show that airs every Saturday morning at 5:30 a.m on Charlottesville's WTJU.

I've heard a lot of people say things like this that are on the fringe. Stunning really. A friend of mine is convinced that Obama is going to send the army into the streets and declare martial law forcing good hearted Republicans to fight a revolution. LOL

I know on 700 last week the talk show host (don't know his name) was talking about whether American troops would shoot on civilians if Obama ordered it. My first day listening to the station and my last.

Just imagine if it was some Muslims or Black Panthers who called for armed revolotion? Or just some white leftists?

Look at the anti-abortionist folks who advocate killing abortion doctors?

Look how they responded to the Occupy Movement?

Why are right wingers given a pass?

At the gym, the Faux news channel is a couple of sets down so I occasionally get attracted to their breaking news alerts. It's like a totally alternate reality....

    because it is.

You don't get any response from everyday concerns, if you really want to sell soap, gold, your blog, your membership or your religion you've got to crank up the crazy.

FWIW, the newsletter in question has been removed from the site.

Isn't this kind of old news? I think this story first came out in March?

Reminds me of the time Harvey Gant ran against Jesse Helms for Senate in North Carolina. In my sister's neighborhood in Winston-Salem, someone put out door-fliers on each house saying if Gant was elected, all the n*ggers would be given guns.

Extremist individuals like these can be found in all threads of the spectrum.

What puzzles me is when "legit" journalists from the Huffinton Post quote misleading titles that try to take a single individuals opinion and reflect it as the opinion as a whole.

It's sad really- that we're that divided. Sure, you'll always have division, tension, and violent lunatics (Turner diaries) but the fact that the crazies are being listened to frightens me.

On an interesting aside- does anyone find it funny how both sides overreact differently? When Bush was re-elected, you had some on the left who threatened to go to Europe and Canada. When Obama might be re-elected, some on the right demand an armed revolution. It's almost as if the fringe conservatives have no where to go. Much of liberal thought- at least my liberal thoughts- are based on the situations and positions of other countries. Fringe conservatives tend to base theirs on... the past? Idealism? There's no haven for them.
