Well don't you know ? ...we lost 6 to 3 when you factor in just the starters and divide the progress by the minutes of time played. If this was a real game, Alex Smith would have been beaten up a bit more and the momentum of settling could have been a mere 19 to 16 Texans win or something
Preseason. A time for veterans to knock off the rust, a time for draft picks to learn the system, and a time for scrubs to try and make a positive impression. It's a time for a team to determine its strengths and weaknesses. We won't know what we really have until the regular season starts. Lets not give these preseason games too much weight one way or the other. Glorified practices are useful in preparing for the real games, but they aren't real games.
First Texans game that I've been too in five years and the atmosphere was amazing for a preseason game.
when your back ups beat other back ups it goes to show you the depth and the talent this team has across the board.. to me its a good sign when the 2nd team players like Harris and Keo show they have improved.. and it seems Roc makes every special teams tackle.
Can someone here explain to me why was holiday cut from last season when he was superb in the pre season with one kr touchdown if my memory serve me right and how come no other teams pick him up? Hopefully every Sunday is a Texans holiday!!!!
texans had a returner named jacoby jones, i dont recall trindon making an impact like this last preseason. he wasnt cut, he was sent to the practice squad. holiday was a speedy guy but he was relying too much on it and wasnt allowing his blocks to set up, this year he is doing much more of that. hes bringing the ball out to atleast the 40 on kick-offs. the only problem i see is teams refusing to kick to him and kicking it out of the endzone.
I'm watching the replay on NFL Network as we speak. It was 3-3 with the both teams' starters out there so you are wrong. We're still rusty. We couldn't run the ball against perhaps the best rush defense in the league. Bullock missed a 51 yarder and OD dropped a big pass on first down.
My question is how many potential INT's did we drop? Quin has the 'OMG HOW COULD YOU DROP THAT' drop and there were several others that the secondary got their hands on.
I distinctly remember Holiday looking like CRAP last season. Calling fair catches when he shouldn't, running sideways more than downfield, and not at all exhibiting the amazing speed that we had heard was his calling card. He looks like a totally different player to me this preseason.
**We came out fine injury-wise. Biggest one is Cushing's bruised ribs. He played well. Sore today. Day to day. **Newton did pretty good. Continues to flash. We're trying to find consistency. Took a step forward. He took advantage of the start. Did some good things. Butler played well also. That battle will go to the end. Who starts this week, we'll wait and see. **Earl Mitchell continues to grow. We like what we see from Sunny Harris but he has missed time. Positive step for him last night. **(With the success of Jean/Martin with the first team, if he's considered giving some of those reps to Posey): The way it played out, the 3rd group didn't get many reps. That's the way it came out. Wish I got Posey more but those other 2 are playing extremely well. I wouldn't say DP isn't doing the same things(as those other two) but it has taken him more time to get going with the offense. He did basically miss a year of football last year. Case missed him late for him to make a play. He'll get plenty of time before the preseason is over. **Good night for Shayne Graham and obviously Randy missed his. Both have done a good job kicking off. We're looking at the big picture. It's close. One's a vet and one is a kid with young talent that has to prove he can do it. Both making it tough but Shayne did a good job. **We won't give anyone anything(someone asked about just giving all the reps to Randy IIHC). You gotta earn it. Competition makes everyone better. In the long haul, one will be our kicker and I won't be surprised if the other is kicking somewhere else. **It helps a lot(playing a hard-nosed team). That first half was physical. 2 teams getting after it. It was preseason but a very real picture for us. Got a lot of respect for that program. Good test for our ones. **Plan is to play starters 3 quarters(this week). I want their mindset that they'll go 3 Qs. It is their last tune up before Miami. **Case did fine. Made a great play on the boot, missed Posey on the deep-over route. I like what he has done and how he handled himself. Reps are hard to come by. We'll have to take everything into account and decide behind Matt and TJ. **(Jean)He had a good offseason. Very good in our program. He worked hard with Matt. It shows. He knows what he's doing now. He's gaining confidence. All the skill is there. He has a chance to be a really good player and we're pushing him. **Didn't do a good job stopping the run. Didn't tackle well. We gotta shore that up. Us running, we came out aggressive throwing. I did want Arian to touch the ball 10 times. ... We can always play better up front. **Throughout camp, (Garrett) Graham, (Mister) Alexander, guys taking a big step early in their career, put B(randon Harris) in there. He's become a better play every time he steps on the field. He needs to play better on ST, we talked about that, and he did last night. **We're close (w/ Watt). He'll do sled work and position specific stuff. Close to getting him on the field. To say later this week, that would get me excited but...(missed the rest) That's important(to have Schaub/AJ out there together). They've practiced well the last 10 days. You can see them in practice coming together. **Most disappointed w/ the 2nd group offensively. We had taken some good steps last week. Trying to get (Brandon) Brooks reps. We had 3-4 holding calls with the group, didn't operate sharply. In that same breath, Ben Jones is playing very well. A bright spot throughout camp and you'll continue to see him get reps. **Happiest about the effort & playing hard. **Not saying we played harder this week. We challenge each other. We talk all the time about little plays that are the difference. ie.The play James (Casey) makes is the difference between being up at half or being down. We always talk about those plays as a team. We need to continue to have that effort. **(How much is that is leaders setting the tempo?): Starts with coaching and then the leaders on your team. **We expect Shaun Cody to start running tomorrow. Day to day.

Kubiak: Brian Cushing has "bruised ribs.Pretty sore today. I think he’ll be day-to-day." I think the bigger issue was the limited plays due to time of possession. San Francisco had a couple REALLY long drives in the first half because the Texans (without Cody) couldn't stop the run. So the Texans' offense only had about 15 plays/three drives before San Francisco pulled some of their starters late in the second. Usually, you can get to those figures by the end of the first quarter or so. Honestly, I felt pretty good about the offense. It seemed like the Texans were able to pass at will, but being the preseason, they wanted to get Foster some reps and evaluate the run blocking of the starting OL. That (along with OD's drop) stalled a couple of those first three drives. If it were a regular season game, I think the Texans would've kept doing what was working - throwing the ball downfield - until the 49ers loosened things up a bit with their front seven. That said, definitely feels weird to see the passing game more advanced than the running game. Think it's a combination of having Schaub/Andre healthy (a rarity) as well as replacing Winston and Dreessen. I'm confident the run blocking will get better as they get more experience and chemistry. (I also think Butler is clearly better than Newton at this stage, but they're trying to get Newton a few first-team reps in the preseason to see if he can handle the workload after this year.)
The draw play's been killing us for ages, compounded by this defense's priority for penetration and the lack of Cody.
Pretty excited to see Lestar, Martin and trindon become serious contributors on offense.... Having legitimate 2nd and 3rd receiving options should do wonders. And if trindon can translate his preseaon into the big time.... Damn! We can literally kill you in every possible fashion. Now if only we can see some consistency from the oline.
The commentator during the Lions game said that most regular season teams are built 25/25/3. As in 25 offensive players, 25 defensive, 3 ST's (Kicker, punter, long snapper). I wonder which position is going to take the depth hit if they keep Trindon. Someone here said they were only going to carry 2 backup lineman, which I think is ludicrous.
t. holiday has to be the 5th wideout if he is going to make the team. johnson, walter, martin, jean, and holiday. sign posey to practice squad. cut b. johnson, inglesias, maehl, and the others.
