I think the reason you don't hear this very often is #22, and unlike the Horry and Cassell trade wasn't drafted here and his appearance didn't coincide with new found clutchness. Otis was awesome though, would have been a perfect fit with Yao.
Perhaps he was thinking about Stromile. Oh no that doesn't work, we never went to him at crunch time.
Part of me says the 'newer' fans to the Rockets are more drawn to Drexler because : 1. he was a perennial all star/ hall of famer 2. he's our TV analyst What they didn't know about OT. 1. He was the first building block to the Rockets return to the Finals. He was traded to the Rockets for Rodney McCray and Jim Peterson (The old members of that 86 Rockets Finals team). 2. He brought trust to the PF position again for Hakeem (since Ralph). Dream trusted OT. Always consitent on the rebounding, scoring, and defensive end. 3. He never missed a freaking game. The opposite of some the "other" players in Rockets history. 4. Yes he was an all star too.
I still remember gas at below 39 cents gallon and the price wars when it would go down to 19 cents. Had a 59 impala rag top then that got about 8 to 10 mpg. The good days of course I was only making about $2.50 per hour working at a grocery store. Dang things change in just 50 years. Can't wait for the next 40 or 50 years.
I think you forgot to mention it brought back memories of Phi Slama Jama, made Dream very happy, and of course the fact they won. Plus he was the better player. Dream definitely liked OT more than guards wasting possessions on bad 3's (including Sam) though. Or any possession where he didn't touch the ball.
