Not that I think this will actually happen, as Atlanta seems intent on building around him, but the idea of trading for Josh Smith has been tossed around here and shot down by many.

Why wouldn't we want him? I'm a big fan of his game, but maybe there's something to it that I'm missing. He also seems to be getting better and better every year.

Is it a function of him taking playing time away from our rookies?

I don't want a 2nd tier star without the superstar. Josh Smith and Al Jefferson are the complimentary type pieces you need when contending to put you over the top. Josh Smith by himself just guarantees us more mediocrity.

Name is too generic for this team. Pass. Only if we can get rid of Kevin Martin we can have the All-NBA Interesting Name Team.

The problem with J.Smoove is this^^^. He's an awesome player, but he's not the player that's going to take you to the championship. Atlanta has attempted to build around 2nd tier stars (Joe Johnson) before. And it just doesn't work. With Josh Smith as your 2nd or 3rd best player you can definitely make some noise in the playoffs, but if he's your best...in the East you'll lose in the 1st round of the playoffs every year.

He's not a player that you can build a championship around. All he would do is cost us assets, cap space, and lottery position. In other words, a knee jerk band aid move, which would solidify our place in the middle of the pack, which is where we've been the last three years.

Any other questions I can help you with?

cost us assets?? no one wants our assets.. that's the problem.. we collect average players and trade them for more average players or lottery picks..

Guys like Bynum and Iggy net u superstars.. not PPat, budinger and Kmart..

He's the type of player that if you surround him with proper superstars, can take you to a championship.

Adding Josh Smith would secure a no.14 pick.

No 3rd tier stars. Unless a James Harden caliber player is up for grabs, we should go with what we have regardless of whether we sink or swim.

Josh Smith would attract more star players to come to houston. Why not? Since the Rocket simply refuse to tank.

If you're a Josh Smith fan you're not a fan of smart basketball.

Because everyone thinks it's championship or bust, so it's get a star or tank. But people, do you realize if tanking goes well potentially the best we could end up is potentially just players of J-Smoove's caliber. There's no guarantee you will get a star that will win you a championship through the draft, I would rather trade for Smith and use him and Lin to convince a top tier star to come through free agency.

Also, I think everyone underrates Kevin Martin a lot. He pretty much has the natural scoring ability of Carmelo, and match that with a big down low presence and the high IQ of Lin, you have a pretty dynamic offense.

There would be nothing wrong if we would have 2 PF's, but we are stacked at that position.

I don't understand getting a top teir player via FA. Haven't we already concluded players will not leave huge money on the table to move in FA. The only way is to pay max dollars for a lesser player that does not deserve max dollars. I think it is trade or draft to get the superstar.

Bad FG%. Don't want him as a first option or second option on offense. Can he even create his own shot? Admittedly don't watch much of him, but have had him 3 years in a row in fantasy bball. He'll wreck you in 3P% some weeks. Dude needs to quit shooting jumpers!
