I don't take everything of what anyone says to the bank. I prefer to just deal with it as presented and try to have a short memory-- not always possible.

Look at deckard raking me over the coals on that thread the other day. I didn't send it down the Abortion Lane. Others did that. Yes I participated heavily but not solely. Lots of responding on my part.

I don't think there had been an Abortion thread in years but, for deckard, the wound is fresh and he acts like I dosed it with salt...

He thinks, I guess, that it is an untouchable subject.

I think you were both passionate in your positions and the discourse was not always civil or respectful in that thread - which is part of the reason for this side of the forum.

Defensiveness abounds - on both sides of the fence.

My personal feeling concerning abortion is that it is outside of the governments scope of work - especially the federal government. How someone could support federal laws concerning abortion and claim to be a constitutionalist is beyond me. And there are those who claim both.

As Frank Zappa once eloquently stated - laws should be made on the basis of behavior and not from a specific religious or moral point of view.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to ima_drummer2k again.

    I'm with you on this.

I'm on the right side of abortion, yet on the left on The Death Penalty and Gay Rights. I think we should allow the Bush Tax Cuts to expire, yet I think Welfare, Social Security both have to be reformed. I do think the military needs an upgrade, but in a way that actually cuts costs, and we need to completely downsize our presence in many oversees places like Germany in order to help cut costs. I think Global Warming is mostly cyclical, but man has done some damage - While de do need some restrictions we can't implement too many too fast or it will damage economic growth. Embryonic Stem Cells? yes, but only from ones that aren't being used from places like fertility clinics, not creating new ones just for research. Adult stem cells? heck yes - keep up that research.

so in all - I don't really fit on either side.

No, you just are an intolerant bigot because you are an intolerant bigot.

Rationale humanity usually isn't tolerant of bigots.

Of course, you like to play the victim card.

I analyze each issue independently. You might be surprised at some positions. For example, I'm very pro-immigration.

    As for you...

    What wealthy person isn't pro-immigration.

It's the middle/ lower class worker that has a problem with cheap labor.

    Hey Texx!

We are making some progress here. Please provide more information on your position on immigration. I am genuinely curious.

Are there other positions on which you consider yourself more left-leaning or which separate yourself from the party line?

Some people don't know what the definition of centrist and middle-left/right mean.

I used to consider myself middle left, but the longer we run around starting stupid wars and have brain-washed middle income folks spouting libertarian/conservative economics as their finances go down the drain, I guess I am extreme left.

That is actually the point - to see how people view themselves.

I find it interesting and TJ's response, was of course, predictable. I would have been disappointed if he had broke character.

TJ and Bigtexxx are moderate or near the middle? Obviously they are delusional. Can you take anything they say seriously?

I put middle right, but tend to be far right on a lot of issues, but left on others. Disgusted with both parties.

I hate the primary system as I feel it prevents a true moderate from ever being elected.

I feel the Supreme Court has allowed Congress to do things states should be doing. Too many things are considered interstate commerce. A lot of the big debates on things like mar1juana and same sex marriages would go away if States addressed more issues. It would be easier to pick a state that fits the lifestyle and laws you want.

I am for a more strict reading of the Constitution. I do think some things should be changed. I think most gun control laws violate 2nd amendment, but the 2nd amendment was written at a time that guns/weapons weren't as powerful. 2nd amendment needs to be changed.

TSA, Patriot Act need to go away.

How far do you have to lean? I kind of shift my weight to my right foot, but I don't require a cane or anything to keep myself up.

    Economically and constitutionally conservative.

"liberal" in issues such as gay marriage.

i put middle left although i use to be moderate.

still lean right on issues like nuclear power, terrorism, and other issues. But more and more, issues that I once had positions on that were considered conservative have been abandoned by Republicans and taken on by Democrats. So I do feel I have been pushed to the left.

Pretty left-leaning on gay rights, abortion, stem cell research, gun control, I think TARP was a good thing (not sure if that makes me left or right leaning), and I finally came the the conclusion towards the end of the Bush administration that invading Iraq was a mistake.

I also don't think Obama is a communist, socialist, or a muslim.

Still pretty conservative when it comes to economics, taxes (I don't think there should be different tax rates for different income levels, for example), illegal immigration, combating terrorism, death penalty, and I'm very against the class warfare many on the left seem to advocate. I don't think rich people are evil, for instance.
