I've had the senheiser HDs before and they were amazing, the klipsch in ear ones that were supposed to be really good but they were overrated.

I'm thinking about the audio-technicas or something.

My cap is around $120 and I want something that doesn't look like a giant control room on top of my head, but I am looking for over-ear headphones.

Any input would be greatly appreciated/repped , just don't post any pictures of the Beatz though :p.

Phelps uses the Sol Republic Tracks HD and they seem in that rnage.

If it's good enough for Phelps, it's good enough for me.

what type of music? I have a set of Beyer Dynamics DT-770's that I use for gaming and music that are pretty nice but they are just a little over your limit. You can find them used for that much though. Good call on the Beats though.

edit nvm.. I didn't read over the ear.. in that case I have a set of ultimate ears triplefi 10 that rock. You can find them on sale .. don't buy them at full price.

AKGs...don't know the price range in USA but they are top-notch in the 60-150$ category in my humble opinion.

Grado SR80s for 100 bucks are fabulous. For an additional 50 bucks you can go for the SR125s but I never listened to them so I can't give a first hand recommendation (I went from 80s to 225s). I have two caveats though:
    1. Only get them if you are careful with your gear. I'm not and have gone through two 60s and two 80s before I got my 225s which I've had for 5 years now (I'm more careful with those).
    2. If are used to the Sennheiser you may not like the Grados at first. I own a pair of Sennheiser HD600 (with upgraded Cardas cables) and the sound between the Sennheiser's and the SR225s can't be more different, but both are great in their own way. The sennheiser's are like a great concert hall with a delicate precious sound, while the grados sound like you are in the middle of the band. The grados are really great for "heavier" music but even I'll admit they can get fatiguing.

If you don't like my suggestions you can always visit www.headphone.com for recommendations. They are not as great as they used to be but they are still the best place for headphone info without having do dive head on into forums.

Alessandro MS1i for 99. They're open backed so not really a wear-in-public type headphone. They're modded Grados, which are known for their fun aggressive sound.

A little out of your range but the Shure 840 is a very neutral headphone that folds up, gives good isolation, and has a detachable cord so you can swap it out for a coiled one or replace it easily if it gets worn.

Anybody sell alessandro's around here? I've for the longest time have wanted to give them a try and compare them to Grados but I don't think anybody sells them around here.

For your price range it is difficult to beat the AudioTechnica ATH-M50 or M50s

I love my Sennheisers. Best headphones I've ever purchased in my opinion; got a $40 value for only $10 thanks to slickdeals a few months back.
    Skullcandies SUCK.

I love my Sennheisers and wouldn't trade them for the world. I can't remember which model I have but they're closer to the DJ style ones then the small ones. Well worth the money you spend. Read reviews online about which one of their headphones fit what you are looking for the most. If time is on your side, then just keep checking Slickdeals.net and search Sennheiser.

I like these too.......big fan of headfi.org for research. Also, think of your source of power. If you're going to be playing music from a phone, or an iPod type device or sometimes even just a computer, a decent headphone amp/DAC can make more difference than a good set of cans. Or put differently, you may have some decent headphones, but garbage in-garbage out.

Listen to this poster. As an all-rounder headphone for those with the OP's budget, the M50 is hard to beat.

Here are some alternatives to the M50s:

    -M-Audio Q40s

    -Shure SRH840

Man ive been trying to find earphones that are NOT in ear and have a mic I can't believe this market is so tiny. The only one I have found is some crappy panasonic that bleeds so badly and apple headphones.

I do not typically deal in consumer products, and usually only high-end commercial AV and live sound/studio. As a result I am fortunate to try out products from multiple manufacturers and often before the products are available to the public.

I'm a fan of the AT headphones. Even the cheapies are pretty decent and the higher end are durable and a great value.

Check out the last option on the link.

Go with Shure or AKG. Quality mics and headphones.
