it's a hypothetical. The other side has the opinion there exists no line because of the 14th amendment. I am proving them wrong. There is a line.

Also they are confused about the 14th amendment. All people have access to government recognized heterosexual marriage and all people have the same lack of access to government recognized homosexual marriage. Everyone is treated equal.

I thought you were against gov't recognized marriage?

So everyone has access to heterosexual marriage and no one has access to homosexual marriage - so that is equal right???

well, i guess that is sort of like saying everyone has a right to have same-race marriage but no one should have access to interracial marriage. I mean, you might as well start allowing White people to marry dogs.

So you are against interracial marriage as well right? I mean, that's your logic right there.

has he chimed in on the matter besides his statement supporting same sex marriage?

a chicken store is the reason he won't win, you think?

Whoa, dude -- let's not get racist and say that Obama loves fried chicken because he's half black and voters will rebel against his love of said tasty chicken.

    Uncool.

Wanting govt. out of marriage is a separate issue. Right now govt. is in marriage. So if they are in it they should be in it for homosexuals just like heterosexuals.

The marrying a dog comparison is a horrible one. It doesn't apply because there isn't one group of citizens that is allowed to marry a dog and a second group not allowed to marry dogs.

However with marriage between two loving humans, that isn't the case.

    Try again.

    My homosexual friends would disagree
You don't know my heart or life and you judge me

I am not disappointed in you, I personally know of your compassion for people especially the disadvantaged groups, I know of your enthusiasm and support of good creative artists
and your desire for a more caring community, I admire what I know of your beliefs.

This is intellectually, morally and ethically dishonest and what's really sad is you are smart enough to know but don't care.

If your position on gays is bigoted, you are a bigot. How is that controversial?

Having the opinion that blacks are inherently intellectually inferior or don't deserve the same rights and protections as whites is bigoted, and if you hold that opinion, you are bigoted. You're free to hold that opinion, but it makes you a bigot.

Gays getting married, and treating another race as inferior.

    Almost the same thing...

    Except for extremely different.

Umm because dogs can't give consent..

Do you understand what the purpose of the 14th Amendment is?

The 14th Amendment is there to give equal protection and as such it is applied that government must treat all equally. In the case of government sanctioned marriage if government does that then it must extend that to all.

Taking your reasoning from another post.
This is a flawed reasoning because following it then mixed race marriage could've been denied under the same reasoning that all people have the same access to government recognized same-race marriage. Such reasoning has been rejected and wouldn't hold up as a violation of equal protection.

I think that there is a good argument that marriage (at least government sanctioned marriage) isn't a right since it is dependent on government sanction. Equal protection though is a right so if the government grants it to one class of people then it should grant it to all.

    Neither?

You have the right to love anyone you want. They have the right to love you back. You have a right to celebrate your love and commit to one another through ceremony.

Legal marriage is neither a right, nor a privilege. I would abandon it.
