Yawn, He is just saying whatever he thinks to get himself a better draft position. I think it was a "Which came first" thing. Was it lousy play calling that came first, or was it the interceptions returned for touchdowns that came first and caused the lousy conservative play calling. I think that both Davis and Simms shared in the blame. Of course 11-2 is not bad. DD
39 posts in a thread with "Simms" in it without a single post from Cat? and if not for a defensive meltdown against Texas Tech, the Horns would have played in the Rose Bowl. They wouldn't have had to play in the Big 12 championship game first ?
Thanks for ruining my day Baui99. I usually work hard not think about that goon. Oh well, you may be looking at the guy that could cost Mack his job. He is way too loyal though more and more I am hearing and seeing that the big money guys are putting pressure on Mack to the point he is making some of these moves. The Nunez move was in the works from last year when McWhorter was brought in. GD is next unless there are HUGE strides forward, and it could even be a mid-season move.
You are a complete idiot. I will be the first to say that I was not always pleased and often pissed at what took place on the field with regard to Chris, but an attack on his personal character is what gives you away. Not even the biggest Major fans who completely despise Chris would say the things you said about Chris b/c anyone who has seen him interviewed, or followed the program over the last 4 years thinks that. What further proves you are clueless is your Carter/Moss comments. Seeing the guy in the media is what gives everyone the "Golden Boy" opinion of him due to his courtesy and class. Hell, I was a grad from aggyville in '93... believe me??? I typed it in this thread.
First of all you didn't explain how my comments about Carter/Moss make me clueless. Also, please explain to me how saying he should have been the starter because the team didn't have anything to play for after only 2 losses is so classy. How is comparing himself to Palmer and Leftwich classy? How is saying you are angry because you are not the starter befitting of a team player? How is saying he needs to have 50 throws a game classy? Again, that's how I judge, not by what somebody's brother who used to clean their unis or whatever has to say. And how do you know him so well to make an opinion? How do you know he has so much class?
I think I'm more upset with Simms for forcing the entire UT community and city of Austin to rehash this tired-ass argument, rather than his actual comments. I haven't been able to go anywhere today without someone asking me my opinion on the article. Let sleeping dogs lie.
drapg, Chris' comments were made off the record to an NFL scout. That scout didn't have the balls to come forward and give his name.
If this is true, and the scout took the comments and went "on the record" with them... than I'm prone to ignore them.
You're right about the Nunez move being in the works. Mack waited until the end of the year to fire him so that he'd get his 5-year bonus. Also, Tom Hicks and co. are giving Mack some serious heat about GD. But after the OU game, the "Greg Davis job saving tour" was successful enough to warrant another year of this garbage. BTW, this move WILL NOT all of a sudden help us beat OU. There's only a few OC's who have the play calling ability and mind to beat a Mike Stoops/Brent Venables defense. Sumlin from A&M called a good game, and Les Miles called a great game.
This is great watching longhorns fight over whether Simms is a good guy or not. Personally, I think Davis' (that is your OC, right) play calling sucks and I don't think Simms executed the plays very well in big games either. It's ashame to see the whole Simms/Applewhite debate a thing of the past.
My take on the situation is Chris Simms has not improved one bit since he's been at UT. Whose fault is that? Greg Davis. he is both the offensive coordinator and the QB coach. Until we replace Greg Davis, nothing will change. Our players will continue to rely on their natural skills without any coaching development.
Simms improved in spite of GD, not because of him. Incidentally, Simms finished #1 in the Big 12 in QB efficiency ratings this year. Yes, ahead of Kliff Kingsbury.
They played some clips from an interview Chris gave at the Senior Bowl workouts today, and Chris claims that everything printed in the article is false, and said he would never say such things about UT or the coaching staff in general. Good news: ESPN did give UT a fifth place rank in their 2003 preseason predictions. OU was first.

Neat-o. Someone's trying to start **** or someone is lying. This should be fun!
Doubt it was the scout, I think it was Wojo. Simms comparing himself to Leftwich or Palmer really isn't that far fetched. The difference between the three is that espn didn't show all of Palmer and Lefty's ints. Anothern note on golden boy Palmer, his td to int ratio was 1::1 before Norm Chow (new OC) took over. He was a bigger disappointment than Simms. Palmer is also a year older. It took him half a season to learn Chow's offense and he essentially won the heisman in the last half of the season. No slight to Palmer, but there wasn't a Barry Sanders type of heisman candidate this year.
One of the points to be made (and I am not putting words in anyone's mouth) is that how much disparity is there between Palmer, Lefty, Ragone, Grossman, Boller, Dorsey, Simms and Klingsbury? Do you really think that the first 3 are that much more of a lock to go on to do big things (or anything at all) than the other 5?
