It's really hard to knock on the Chinese, they've really invested in their sports program, even though casual sports aren't mainstream right now.

China has the population to produce the best genetically predisposed athletes for practically ANY sport (and everything else). As long as the funding and interest continues, this could be China's century.

US and China will be in a dead heat for years to come. USA is the most populous 1st world country in the world though.

I would say that China will overpass the USA in 100 years fairly easily. It all depends on population. If China can bring themselves into a very advanced stage of human development index, there is no stopping them from dominating the summer games.

You think the US is dominating in sports like diving, gymnastics, shooting, rowing, weight lifting, etc? Are you talking about the 60s 70s?

I rarely think America makes the best decisions, but total medal count is most important to me. I hate how common it is for people to marginalize silver and bronze.

That said, gold medal total is still important. I compare gold medal count to being the HR leader in the MLB season. Might not win the MVP, but it still pulls just as much cred.

so if you were Lebron & the Heat, would you have preferred lost for 2nd time in a row in the NBA Finals, than winning one?

so if OKC would've have won the title, would you prefer being a Heat fan over a Thunder fan?

    First time I heard that!

Learn how to spell Congratulations before you start calling people "kiddo". lol.

    Try again, troll.

As for the rest of you that disagree, I have no problem with that. I just have my opinion of it, you guys have yours. There is no right or wrong answer to this, it's subjective as to what you think could happen.

    It is a combination...

41 silver and bronze medals vs. 40 gold medals

    or

1 gold vs. 10 silver and bronze medals.

Other countries that could raise their standing by using the overall medal count instead of using the gold medal count do not use it, other than the US. Show me other countries that do what the US did in listing the medal standing.
