I wonder if the Kings would give us Bobby Jackson + Peja for Francis. I think the contracts match up. Turk could step up for Peja and Jackson could get his deserving role as a starting point guard. The kings could go Bibby Francis Turkoglu or Christie Webber Divac The rockets could be Jackson Mobley Peja Griffin Yao It'd mess up the Kings' chemistry and I am not really sure if the Kings would want to do that. If they have decent scouting they could easily see that Francis doesn't really fit into their style of game (And1 ballin'). But on paper, it sounds reasonable. An super star for two good players (maybe very good). just my two cents
Players with new contracts are untradable. For Peja or Jackson or all the jacksons in the mint. So forget that silliness. I did note that after letting the C's make a tough game of it the Rox, led by their '1' guard, didn't miss a score the last two minutes. The core is here. The core is good. The core can, should, and WILL mature as the Kings and Mavs had and be lethal in the coming years.
First, no way we want to make our conference rival better. Second, Bobby Jackson is not young anymore (29). That meant once Yao and EG develop, Jackson would be past his prime. Third, common knowledge tells us when you trade a star for good players, usually the side with the star gets the upper hand.
Sane, you just can't let Odom go, can you? True, you are one of the few who did make an effort to at least propose some valid trade ideas. Although, I didn't think Cato and Mobley's salary would even come close in matching up to Odom's. Odom is still on his rookie contract, isn't he? Don't Cat and Cato combine for almost $90 million? Anyways, the reason I tried to provide a rebutall for Odom, Barry, and Miller, is because those are the three players in which I thought trade ideas might actually be a possibility - meaning those teams may actually be willing to trade those players and we might have some players they want. All in all, Barry is a player I wouldn't mind having. I think those who believe he's going to come in and single-handedly change the way the Rockets play are dreaming, but I wouldn't object to a one-for-one trade between him and Mobley. As for Odom and Miller, there's just no proof that tells me either of those guys can help a team win. My comment about the "providing trade ideas" was directed to those who just complain without providing any other options other than "we need a true point guard." ....Like that helps.
Third, how much different is Bobby Jackson from Steve Francis, excpet for not being as good? Fourth, Stojakovic is a one-dimensional player who hasn't looked quite the same after recovering from his injuries. I think this trade would set back the Rockets another couple of years.
not just trying to up my post count, but I concur with Sir Jackie Chiles.....AMEN! that is the most horrible trade I've seen on this board... I don't like the Lakers or the Mavericks, but there's no way my hatred for either would cause me to trade our best player to the Kings, just so the Lakers and Mavs wouldn't win the West again...EVER.
This is the opinion that most resembles mine. It's pretty obvious that neither of them have played with big men of the caliber of their new teammates, and they're still trying to fit their games into that dynamic. I'm willing to wait-and-see about making any moves, trades or positional. But in the meantime, ONCE AGAIN, the Gs really need to stop dominating the ball, which reminds me of what John Wooden, via Bill Walton, needs to say: (to paraphrase) 'If you don't have a shot after 1 dribble, pass it. If it takes you 2 dribbles to pass it, come sit next to me on the bench.'
This last quote was going through my mind as I watched the Rockets beat Boston even though I've never heard it before. When the Cat or SF dribbled more than once it was sad and poor basketball. The ISO's work but it ends up in a circus shot more often than not and when those don't fall we lose to some pretty sorry teams most of the time. I don't think the offense is changing that much with Rudy in charge.
one more point. none of the Rockets guards have any idea how to get the ball to Yao in the low post, particularly when Yao is being fronted. Even Matt Maloney knew how to get the ball to Hakeem.
It was different back then. There was no zones allowed. Remember how hard it was to get the ball into Dream when we played the Sonics since they played that pseudo zone. I'm not arguing that we couldn't do a better job at getting the ball in Yao, I just think that comparison is unfair. By the way, I think Horry was and still is the best at the entry pass into the post. Our guys should watch tape of him doing it.
I agree with Doc's point. After watching the Hawks game, it's obvious Steve can't keep his mind in the game. How many freethrows did he miss? He would rather drive the lane with as much traffic as the Houston freeways than pass to an open man. Move him to SG already.
I said this a few weeks ago. Horry was excellent. However, he's 6' 10", which gives him a bit of an advantage...

I think Seattle would jump all over a strait Barry-Cat trade and I wouldn't do it. Even if a Francis and Barry would be overall more effecive offensively, it would make the worst defensive back court tandom in the league and net hurt us IMO. Honestly I have more questions about Steve and long term chemistry issues. But even this is premature, we only added the best prospect to come into the league since Tim Duncan, one rookie making a huge adjustment culturally, linguistically, media wise and basketball wise. Not to mention our starting PF is barely 20 and our current starting 3 has been with us for like 3 weeks.
If Cat is better as a 6th man, why not try starting Posey at the 2 (to defend all the great two guards in the league), and bring Cat off the bench to be the microwave? And Posey could split time between the 2 and the 3, so that both would still get minutes.
This is the first time is francis career he had to play the point guard. give him time and he will suceed.
