Protip: If the military you're joining is 'stationed' in caves in the middle of Asia, you might get blown up by unmanned aircraft.

That's irrelevant to the OP who is willing to join the military and doesn't have a college degree with a set of expectations. I don't know the stipulations of what that provides - but I'm pretty sure health care and a basic wage are taken care of that can get a single guy without a drug habit by.

It's a matter of perspective. You're surrounded by a ton of pretty, clever, sassy women with a beautiful landscape and a more chilled out mentality towards life. There's very little nag in Europe. Imagine waking up on a Saturday and instead of looking at disgust at your potato of a wife, hauling your kids off to soccer practice in the minivan, eating for half the day with a few beers, debating football with someone as equally clueless, constantly glancing at your blackberry trying to push some last minute paperwork through in a neverending cycle of bull****... you slick your hair back, put on the bermuda's and loafers, iron out a white tee, bathe in SPF 30 sunscreen, and just catch some sun with your 5/10 gf, who's an 8/10 to all your friends back home.

That is inspiration for the average guy looking to start afresh.

Compare that to a place like Oslo, where your health care and subsidized living is taken care of in a socialist haven, but a kg of chicken at a standard market is 15 Euro's.

You could always go to North Dakota instead. They have an oil boom going on right now.

Whatever you do, never, ever, pay money to get a job. Lots of scam artists going around offering jobs when in reality they are just taking advantage of you.

I'm actually in North Dakota right now (although I'm on the eastern side and nowhere near the oil fields)

It is nuts out west and if anyone is interested in going that route, let me know. There's a lot of craziness over there as the growth in the oil industry has totally outstripped the infrastructure out west. (Housing out west is as expensive as housing in Manhattan right now) You basically have to land an employer that will house you in the man camps.

Western North Dakota is probably the only place in America where a job at McDonalds will pay $20 an hour.

I would think the Eagle Ford area a few hours from Houston would be booming right now as well.

I thought about Australia before, but it looks like i would def. need a college degree before going where as Europe and being able to move around traveling while working in bars etc would be fine for me. The military option would be last resort.

It's not impossible but Spain has over 50% youth unemployment right now. The economy there is melting right now.

But none of us are in Spain, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Well i don't want to settle in Spain. So 2 years isn't very long. If i could survive working 2 lowly jobs for just 2 years, i could then move to another EU country of my choice and maybe be able to join the military there if it is at all possible. I only know of Germany accepting foreigners from other EU countries into their military soon. But, i can't find much info on other countries.
