I think with a good manager we aren't a complete disaster. Since they attempted to deal Carlos Lee to the Dodgers, we are 3-23.
Oh, you know you're going to miss all 8 trips to the mound during the course of a game. I don't care either way. Now or later, seems he's gone either way.
I see the reasoning in waiting but I think they should do it now. This was never a playoff team but that losing mentality is very difficult to shake off. It seems clear to me that they're tuning him out...probably because of his lame duck status. I'd like to see a move made now and see if they can put together a somewhat competitive 2 months.
And hopefully it is the whole staff. Dave Clark & Doug Brocail are at the top of my list as well. Mike Barnett could go either way.
Competitive for what logical reason? the 3rd pick in the draft? I understand your losing mentality argument but let's be real, 95% of the players on this team WILL NOT be on the future playoff contending team 3-4 years from now. His contract expires after this year and Jeff has been pulling his best players (albeit still ****y players) for the last 2 months. I hope the Astros have more class than just scapegoating a lame duck.
The team can be far more competitive and still get the first pick in the draft. We have 5 more losses than any other team. We have the worst run differential in baseball. Over a quarter of the way through the season, we were 22-23 with a plus 14 run differential. If we can just get back to winning 1 out of 3, we will still finish with the worst record in baseball, but maybe we can quit looking like an embarrassment on a daily basis. If we are going to suck, that is fine, but lets quit trying to be the 1962 Mets. I'd like to win at least 50 games, but that is in doubt right now.
Just wait till the end of the season when there are more manager's available. I really don't care about bringing in an interm hire.
I'd say the fact that he didn't get fired today, an off day, makes it pretty clear he's going to get to finish the season.
