You could ask the same question about Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, etc. The Boston Celtics were just too good.
And Pete Maravich. The guy played with HORRIBLE teams...until he was traded to the Celtics, but by then, his skills had been eroded by injury, and he retired after half a season with them. Also... "You need athleticism to succeed in the NBA." There's this guy whose soft body had no muscle tone. Two fingers on his shooting hand were disfigured. He had a throwback of an outside shot, launched off his shoulder, that looks as if it would be easy pickings for pro basketball's springy-legged defensive predators. His name was Larry Bird. You're welcome.
whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? First, Baylor never won a ring... and he's one of the best players to never win a ring a-la Karl Malone/Charles Barkley. Sadly he retired before Wilt and West won their chip together. 2nd, he's a legendary 60's player. Not 70's. The premiere 70's forward was named Julius Erving. And in Baylor's era, everybody's fg% was slightly lower, and rebounding totals slightly higher etc etc so it's not like you can directly compare his stats with players today. If that were appropriate than we should also be assuming Baylor would grab 20 rebounds per game today and inversely be SUPER impressed by it. But no, likely neither of those two stats would be so directly comparable today. He'd probably be taking fewer, and more carefully selected shots in today's league and he'd have less shots too rebound as a result of his own (and everybody around him)'s more careful shot selection. He played in a fast-break era where the trend was jack up a shot as quick as possible.
So you also justify the statement that he was dominant even though he was only a champion for 1 year ( or was it 2 years?) ?
No years. Do you even care to look up any info about Elgin or are you just going to troll everybody on this board to do it for you?
Wait, wait, wait...so you admit that the old style of play directly impact their out of this world playstation stats? So how can you possible say how great they'd be today using their ridiculous stats which most certainly wouldn't be done in today's game? Their ridiculously low FG%'s show how inaccurate(less skilled?) they are compared to today's game even though today's defense is LEAGUES harder than it was in yester-years game... Also, why do you continue to dodge the question..."why do so many of these highlights show these guys doing stuff when they're never touched when they're scoring" and "what's up with all the little white guys not even putting a hand on them in these clips"...we're still all waiting for your reply as we have been for the past month or so...
Trolling a troll is not trolling at all...59 posts of nothing but how great old players are and how they'd dominate today's players is pure d-baggery...quit pretending like you can't see otherwise
Your questions are the first time I've heard them asked... so how can I have been ignoring them?... "doing stuff when they're never touched when they're scoring". <--- um. what? "what's up with the little white guys..." Let me stop you right there. None of them are little, and only some of them are white. Please list the time of the clip that you've seen a defender you are unimpressed by and I can at least tell you who it is and how big or small a player they are. "...not even putting a hand on them in these clips" Foul trouble? Defender is tired and made a mistake? Idk, again list the time of the clip you see a defensive mistake and perhaps I can give you the context and time of the game. A lot of these plays are late in games. And the defense these players play is no different than 1980's era defense... in the sense that effort isn't always @ 100% because the style of the game wasn't yet revolving around defense. You know, the same era Hakeem and Sampson played. You going to insult their era too?
Uh, watch the Oscar Robertson clips you posted in a previous thread, that's where you ignored my post... This was not the same defense in the 80's...have you even watched the NBA since the 70's? Good lord... Isn't there a Cav's board you can crawl back under?
Well, if you would like some answers just give me specific clips that I can at least give you some information on. I can't argue against opinion based blanket statements. I can however, show you defensive plays (or lack there of) from the 80's that look identical to one's seen in the 60's and I can also give you player measurements for ones you suspected were inadequate.
Uh, first clip of your post...I'm not going second by second, that's ridiculous, much like your posts. Watch it and tell me if Oscar gets significantly touched in the first 2-3 mins. And your 60's players measurements are unverifiable (as you've proven in your previous rambling with Sam Fisher)...quit trying to sound so official, it's as pathetic as your modern player hate. I'm sure you believe that players get worse and worse as the years go by...amirite? Seriously, there is some Cav's board that has some lonely mold that needs your company...shoo....
It seems to me like you don't actually care what my answers are, seeing as how your getting personal. But the first clip shows Baylor getting blocked by Tom Heinson, then Baylor grabs the rebound and makes the shot anyways. Are you displeased with Heinson's defensive play or is it his size that you don't like? He was listed both 6-7 and 6-8 during his career, and 217 and 220lbs, he's not bigger but he is taller than Baylor - what exactly his wrong with that clip? The fact that Heinson doesn't "touch" Baylor to avoid the foul in the closing minutes of a 4th quarter in the NBA finals? And I don't hate modern players...
