Our friend John has been in an induced coma for a week now. Today, Saturday, at 4PM they are taking him off life support as he has shown no brain activity for several days. John's wife found him unconscious last Sunday. Initially they thought he had had a heart attack but soon discovered that he had choked on a sandwich resulting in a loss of consciousness and heart stoppage. They revived him and medically-induced a coma. When they tried to bring him out of it, he suffered severe seizures. So they put him back into the medically-induced coma for several days. Again they brought him out of the coma without recurrence of seizures but now several days have gone by with no improvement. When he passes, John will leave behind a wife, a son, a mother and two siblings and their families and scads of long-time friends in our local community. Please pray for John and his family in the coming hours. EDITED for clarity. Sorry about the confusion. John is a friend here in NC.
Can't believe such a trivial thing can lead to this terrible situation. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
Yeah choking is (if memory serves me correct) 5th on the list of accidental deaths behind head trauma/falling, fires, car wrecks and poisoning but maybe not in that order . Sending all of my prayers and energy yalls way John/GiddyUp. Stay strong!
I wasn't sure myself. I'm sobering up with little to no sleep, so my comprehension wasn't stretching too far.. At first I was reading it from the perspective of someone else telling us like Manny's thread. Then I put 2 and 2 together but I still may be getting 3.
You're right TDUB. "scads of long-time friends in this community." This is written by a relative and John is giddyup. Wow.
giddyup posted 2 days ago. I think he is wishing well for the family of his friend. Giddyup that is a terrible tragedy and I hope you and your friends family are able to cope.
Okay some closure would be good now. "in this community"=Cf.net or the community where John lives? John=giddy or a friend?
So is John part of the CF family? Sorry to hear that. What a sobering thought that eating a sandwich can have such an effect. Definitely a lesson for me to chew my food more than 5 times (I don't chew much).
Not giddyup. He has daughters and his mother passed away, I believe. Prayers for John and his family.
best wishes. i hate to see people in a helpless state because of some freak life event. but I'm always happy to see loving and caring people around the the patient.
We have an awesome pastoral staff couple at our church. The wife who is the associate pastor of congregational care broke off her vacation on Day One to step alongside, comfort and support John's wife and family. She has been with them almost constantly. No, giddyup is not John...
