The kid is actually 15 now. I know many people his age that can write just as well or better than him, it's not that special. Nothing that warrants being on a team website for sure.

Hell, that kid puts together better sentences than 85% of the posters on this site (myself included).

And whose place is it to judge whether or not he deserves to have his columns posted on the Mavs website? IMO, the only person should be Mark Cuban.

I still do not understand why so many posters are this upset over a fricking 15 year old's opinion on Yao Ming.

Just give the kid a break. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Just like how Yao does it best...shut them up one by one with his actions not words.

Does anybody else think a rookie putting up at least 25 points against the biggest player and best center in the leauge is too high of an expectation. I mean, if Yao put that number up against Shaq, I would say give him ROY right after the freaking game! Hell, give him the MVP! :p If Yao comes out aggressive and doesn't shy away from Shaq, puts up say 15 and 10 with some blocks, I (and I believe everyone should) will be impressed, especially considering this will be his first time against Shaq and first truly physical test. Pt is, there is more to a player's game than how much he scores. Take for example, his first ever NBA game (preseason against SA). Soon as he got on the court he put up an agressive defensive stand, came down on offense and and wanted the ball. He went straight at SA! No fear! Do that on Shaq and I think he will win more people over.

I don't think Ben and other Mavs fans like him should be compared to Gollum. That's just wrong and totally not fair.

Gollum atleast had the precious ring once.

You people are missing the point. I don't care if he's 15 or if he's 25, he has a wrong opinion (he isn't supporting it with factual information..opinions can be wrong). I'm sure if he was 25+ people wouldn't defend him with "he's just a kid". I treat journalists the same, this guy doesn't have a clue of what he is talking about. I can't stand people that defend kids because of how old they are.

You have amazing powers of observation.

But he is not 25+.

But he is writing on an official NBA website. If he wants to write stuff that simply isn't true or biased he should expect negative responses. That goes for every single piece of writing, be it from a 6 year old or a 90 year old.

People should be treated the same.

LOL. But you have to remember, like 60% of the teams out there never saw a ring either.

Geez, last time I looked we had the right of free speech in the US. It is not as if this ignorant kid was inciting violence or hatred for Yao. He was just expressing his biased views as a ferverent Mavs fan. Big deal. I suppose I would get death threats if I went public with my preference for Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars over Nike Jordans....

Exactly, so we also have the right to criticize his public opinions. What's the big deal? I don't agree with those who are making fun of him personally, but there's nothing at all wrong with bashing his article or his opinion on Yao Ming. As a journalist, that just comes with the territory.

This BBS wouldn't even exist if weren't allowed to bash each others opinions.

Bash my opinion. That's fine. That's part of the journalism job. I happen to think one thing. You happen to think another. Talk amongst yourselves.

Don't bash me. Losers sit at home all day and bash people because of how they look or how old they are. That's extremely immature and if you expect ever get a job in journalism doing that, you're sorely mistaken.

Kid, you are only a teen, what do you know about a loser? What do you know about "immature"? Grow some hair on wherever they need to be grown. then you maybe entitled to start a discussion like this. By the way, grammatically speaking, is there a degree to "immature"?

I happen to agree with the kid. Plus, if some of us here posted our pictures (why did you put such a big picture of yourself next to the article, which journalist does that usually?), we would have to do plenty of mockery among ourselves... :)

So, what makes you agree with his biased thinking?

I agree with "Bash my opinion - don't bash me". I have no problem bashing adults when they write or do something silly, but I think there should be a slightly different standard with a 15-year old.

I had nothing to do with the picture. They took it, I hated it, and they posted it. I hear I have a new one coming soon because I took one a few weeks ago. Wow, these people are very look-based. It's just terrible.
