I dont have the link, but I am sure that most of you saw the article on Vince this morning in the Chronicle. Anyway, my question is: Will Steve be put in the same class as Vince? I personally think that Steve is going to win more than Vince, but is he as good (or better)? I know that this is a difficult comparison since they play different positions and thus have different responsibilities. Here is one vote for Steve nonetheless. ------------------ Calvin Murphy for President!
No, I don't think he will, I hope I am wrong, but is Isaiah in the same class as MJ? Nope. DaDakota ------------------ All you MO-FO's better stop ripping off my lines !!
I'd take Steve any day of the week. ------------------ Sometimes I think I'd be better off dead. No, wait, not me...you.
I would rather have Steve on my team because he does it all. He can shoot, he runs the fast break, he's a team leader, he has spectacular ball handling skills, he averages 5.31 boards per game and he's only 6 foot 3. At 6-9 Vince can only get 5.7 rebounds, he can shoot threes, and he can fly. I forgot to mention that Francis has recriuted two great players this off-season (Cuttino and Mo Taylor) ------------------ Cuttino Mobley Online www.Rockets2000.net [This message has been edited by FrancisFan (edited September 13, 2000).]
Yeah but Carter is no MJ. I would take Francis anyday. Francis has the flash like Magic and the hops like MJ.
... and the turnovers like a bakery. Get it? Get it? Turnovers... bakery? WOO HOO! ------------------ Falk that Mo Fo!!!
I would have Francis too. While he might not be as great a scorer as VC (but even on that the jury is still out) he is a much better all round player. Plus I dont know what the hell Blinebury has been smoking lately. His article on how Shaq is already one of the top 4 centers of all time, his article today, and basically his **** SUCKS!!! ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. Stupid threads are not FUN! 2. Purely objectively, I'd rather have Carter. I think he'll be one of the 5 best players ever. He's already pretty phenomenal. I wouldn't trade Stevie now, though. I'm rather attached to him (like all of you are) . ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
Five best players ever? Lets see Bill Russel, Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Vince Carter? Would you list him those players? ------------------ Cuttino Mobley Online www.Rockets2000.net
Trying to be as objectively as I can I would pick Steve F. Why? mainly because the amt of things that Francis can do, he is just a better all around player but then again he is a pt. guard and as a guard your game has to go beyond just being able to drible the ball upcourt. ------------------ Life moves pretty fast, If you don't stop and look once in a while you might miss it!! ... When I first thought about Steve Francis coming here from Vancouver I was thrilled. Then I started to wonder if he could play the point position. Well he can and with guys like Rudy T. and Calvin Murphy teaching him things like the Calvin's "stop and pop" to Rudy's "team player/team chemistry", I see no reason he can't do anything he puts his mind too. I think he is in the same class but just at another position. I can't think of another player at the point that can do what he can. You name one that can score, defend, pass, rebound and be a human highlight film all at the same time. GP, Kidd, Cassell, Best, Van Exel? He did all that just his rookie season. Imagine what he'll be able to do when he becomes that 3-4 yr. veteran, scary!!! Vince will have a problem getting players to go to Toronto but some will. Who knows I could be wrong about Toronto and FA's. ------------------
Steve and Flying V play at two different positions. Flying V. is the second coming of the Human Highlight Film but unless something dramatically changes he'll be just like that. A top ten play each week. Steve on the other hand is coming off his rookie season and has shown a glimpse of the real damage he can do in this league provided that he keeps working at it. Steve is a 30 pt, 10 assist and 6 rebounds a night player. Put it this way, if he was 6-6 everybody and I mean everybody would be comparing him to MJ. ------------------ I am in mean mood to be Hakeem good
jonesiii I hate to say this but the comment you made about if he was 6'6 = MJ .. I could not agree with you any more.... ------------------ Life moves pretty fast, If you don't stop and look once in a while you might miss it!! ... Ferris Bueler
some of you would take steve francis over freakin vince carter? hell, im not even a carter fan and i hate the hype but i know talent when i see it. francis is sweet and will get better but this is carter. yall are messed up
I agree Nugzfan, every GM in the league, and the players will tell you that they would rather have Vince Carter than Steve Francis. Of course Vince Carter isn't as good as MJ, and of course he isn't in the top 5 players ever, he is freakin only 23 YEARS OLD. He just completed his second year in the league. Many players around the league are in awe of Carter's ability. Alonzo Mourning even went as far as saying that Carter is the second coming of MJ, now I don't agree with that, but that coming out of Alonzo Mourning's mouth is a big time compliment. Rudy commented that how high Vince jumped was absolutely ridiculous. Ray Allen said that nobody in the league can do some of the things Vince does. Vince Carter doesn't play d, but neither does Francis. Both are young players and will learn to play D. And by the way Francisfan, Vince is 6-7 and is better suited to play SG or SF so that is why he gets 5.7 rebounds a game, he's not a power forward....I would take Vince over Francis, and I think Vince has the potential to be in the top 10 players of all time when it is all said in done. Now Steve has a lot of potential as well, and in his second season we will see what he can do. Can he take this team to the playoffs like Vince took the Raptors? Will Steve fall under the pressure of his first playoffs ever like Vince did? Of course Francis has a better coach and group of players around him than Vince did, but if Francis takes us into the playoffs which I think he will, that won't make that any less than Carter taking his team to the playoffs. As of right now, I wouldn't trade Steve for Vince just because I am attached to Steve and he is my favorite player in the league. But talking without a bias, I would take Carter to start a franchise. Plus Carter brings fans and publicity like no other. ------------------ "See they pick and pick and pick. Man they picked me to death." -Steve Francis on the Utah Jazz
How about we take Francis and Vince? Mobes and Stevie better be doing some major recruiting when Carter becomes a free agent. I still think Kobe can take Carter anyday though. ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. Stupid threads are not FUN! 2. Spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure are not FUN! 3. I don't think we can judge until we see Francis' second season in the league.....the biggest jump is always the second season.....By the way, who's ROOKIE season was better, Francis or Carter? I didn't follow Carter much in his first season...... ------------------
Francis' rookie stats are better than Carter's, but Carter made a huge jump in his second season. Francis has almost an identical FG % (although PG's usually have a lower FG %), slightly better FT %, better 3-point %, less blocks, more steals, A LOT more turnovers, about the same rebounds and scoring, but more than twice as many assists. It remains to be seen if Francis can make such a big jump as Carter in his second season. I think that while Francis will not score 25.7 points a game, he will score something like 22, 23, along with 8 assists and 6 rebounds, shooting a ridiculously high FG % for a PG (I expect something like 47 %). While Carter is also still improving and I think that both are, on a similar level, uniquely talented guys with the potential to become top 5 players ever at their position, my conclusion would be to take Francis because I would consider it even more important to have the PG position filled adequately than the SG position. There is a lot of guys who can shoot the ball, but everything starts with the PG and you won't find another PG with ALL the talents Francis has. If I was starting a team from scratch and could pick equally good players for the different positions, I would start with the C position, then the PG, then PF, then SG and then SF. It would be INCREDIBLE if we could get Carter. The Rockets would be one highlight show. I don't know about Mobley recruiting Carter, though, because we have to give Anderson a good contract after the 2001 season and then it might be against Mobley's own interest to recruit Carter. You don't pay Anderson a lot of money to sit on the bench, so you might run into a minutes problem. (Just reviewed it; actually, it would be ok.) ROCKETS 2002-2003 PG: Francis 35, Mobley 13 SG: Carter 20, Anderson 13, Mobley 15 SF: Carter 18, Anderson 17, Langhi 13 PF: Taylor 35, Langhi (bulked up 'till then) 13 C: Cato 25, Collier (or future draft pick) 23 Coincidentally, we would get rid of Walt's, Rogers', Drew's and Kenny's contracts after 2001-2002, so maybe we would have the cap space? We should not sign any expensive people in 2001 then, though, and would have to sign Carter first and THEN sign Anderson, though. This would be even better than getting Webber.
