Not the pets but the seeds. The seeds are edible and are supposed to be all the new rage right now. Has anyone personal experience with eating chia seeds? Benefits? Taste good? Energy level? Etc?
I definitely think they give you more endurance when I eat them and go running later in the day. They have loads of fiber. I usually mix two tablespoons with a cup of organic cranberry or pomegranate juice and mix the gel with yogurt.
I used them when I was cutting weight. Very high in omega 3 and 6. I used to put two tablespoons in a 1.5L bottle of water and drink it. I recommend them, very healthy.
I think I started a thread on this about a month ago, or I meant to...Did you read Born to Run? That's what got me interested. I use them in a lot of things lately. I made the Chia Fresca, which is pretty good. I've used them to make up part of a coating for cooking chicken. We make Refrigerator Oatmeal, sometimes I put a tablespoon or so on top of Greek Yogurt for a snack, etc., etc. They don't really taste, add crunch, and have excellent nutritional value.
Do they just dissolve or something or when you guys make a drink with them is it like drinking a soup?
HOLY ****!!! Reading the health benefits on that page make me want to use them. Must investigate.....
the way you phrased it until the last few words, i thought it was going in the direction of salvia or something..
They have no taste. The closest taste I would venture to guess they are like is probably the sesame seeds. I put a whole tablespoon in a small container, then stir them into my yogurt. They're all-right. You can also eat them on their own, but don't toast or fry or bake them. They'll lose their potent nutritional power. They are seeds. No seeds dissolve as they have a shell. Their outer shell becomes coated with a jelly-like protein-filled material. They do? And then what happens after the do?
I was waiting for Swoly to comment on these, as they are grown in abundance in Mexico. No ill-intention meant with that comment, Swoly.
^ My ancestors grew them to help with endurance while hunting and for battle. Bought a huge bag at the Vitamin Shoppe place at the request of the missus who believes I'll get healthier, my family I did. And I got a bit healthier. And I eat less because of those.
After reading about them, I decided to give them a try. They don't really have a taste. I mix 2 tablespoons with a cup of liquid and it forms the gel. I drink/eat that in the morning along with a small breakfast and that keeps me full till lunch. I dont know if it's just in my head, but when I hit the gym, I feel like I can go longer after I've had them. Just don't mix it in only water and drink that... While they don't have much of a flavor, the texture is weird. For me, unless it was mixed in OJ, cranberry juice, etc, it was kinda hard to drink.
I put them in green (and not-so-green) smoothies I make at home, along with flax seeds. No idea if they work or not, but the Internet said they're good, so they must be.
