We are collecting all these non-guaranteed contracts to execute a large trade of which Martin will be the centerpiece. The man is as good as gone.

That makes more sense at least.

Probably a combination of what has been stated above. We get a pick, we get non-guaranteed contracts, and we may be positioning to temporarily go over the cap.

Here is the take from a Celtics fan forum cite:

They list two additional players in the trade for Lee.
    - Sean Williams
    - E'Twaun Moore

"There will likely be other players included besides Johnson to make the money work; most likely candidates are Sean Williams, and possibly E'Twaun Moore, both of whom have non-guaranteed deals. Also, we have no clue yet on the financial details, but for it to be a sign-and-trade, it has to be at least a three year deal (although the second and/or third seasons can be non-guaranteed,.)

Any way you slice it, this is pretty good news. Lee is the type of guy who you can plug into a lineup without any worries about "fit"; he's a very good shooter and a good defender, and he's still only 26 years old. It stinks that Ray signed in Miami, but this is a very nice consolation prize."

Does adding more picks indicate that the rookies won't be dealt?

These players can't be included in a trade package for two months.

It only matters if Garnett and Pierce play at a high level. They won't win another ring if their stars don't play big.

We just recently cut 2 players after getting Jeremy Lin to do the Asik deal. This coming trade will effectively add 2 players to the roster since Lee's rights occupied a spot, IIRC. Who gets cut next?

Also, don't we still hold Goran's rights? Is there some sort of S&T coming on the PHX front? Perhaps a pick or two that they acquired from the Lakers is in play?

Marc J. Spears: Rockets get a 2nd round pick from Charlotte that Boston owned along with JaJuan Johnson,E'Twaun Moore and Sean Williams in Courtney Lee deal now

Great move Morey. Even more valuable than a late 1st rounder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
