Rebuild with our lotto pick and Toronto's lotto pick plus three new rookies and a whole lotta cap space. The world will not end.
You start D-Mo at the 5 and see where he goes. Asik can back him up. You trade Martin for maybe a mid-late 1st rounder, and... Lin/Machado Lamb/Douglas Parsons/White Patterson/Jones Motiejunas/Asik The Youngest team in the NBA, and most definently a future contender, and add the Toronto pick and our pick. Yes, I know Douglas isn't a 2 naturally, but he can play it. Just look at his stats - he only averages around 3-4 assists.
NBA broke Yao's foot. T-Mac was just to trick us into thinking we were contenders. Don't you see David Stern's genius plan to screw us over and make the Knicks great?
Livingston isn't going anywhere as long as his contract isn't guaranteed. To me it would be nice to find a trade partner to move at least one of White/Patterson/Morris. I think if we could move Martin for a decent pick, it would have happened to give more ammo to the Magic. Lin/Livingston/Douglas Martin/Lamb Parsons/Morris Patterson/Jones DMo/Asik Without Howard/Bynum, I don't see any reason to bring back Lee. I'd like to see a rotation primarily of Jones/DMo/Asik at the 4/5 position.
#1 I think there is more than a remote chance that the Rockets miss out on Howard and Bynum, I would say there is over a 50% chance. #2 The Rockets have to decide if they want Bynum enough to give up assets and lose out on 2 probable lottery picks next season (Toronto and Houston's) #3 How will Bynum respond to a coach that expects him to play hard and be accountable? #4 Will he ever be healthy long term?
I think it's turned into a better than remote chance the Rockets don't get either. Asik will get signed and we'll be watching a very young team. Good news is, they probably won't be stuck with the 14th pick again. It's become quite apparent to me that the Magic are, for some strange reason, afraid of hurting Howard's feelings by trading him somewhere he doesn't want to be. I'm not sure why they care at this point, but they do. What can the Lakers offer them that matches the Rockets offer? Bynum doesn't want to extend his contract there. They don't have the draft picks and/or expiring contracts and/or young talent. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference, though. They're going to help LA win another title or 2, again. I do hope, though, that Morey and Alexander have moved on from wanting Gasol. He adds nothing to the team as it's currently constructed. If anything, he puts them back in position for the 14th pick. If youth is the way to go, then go all in.
Would Morey really go with this young team? To me, he finally learned role players won't net him a star, but picks and prospects might. I'm afraid if we don't get Bynum or Dwight, Morey will immediately begin trading for near stars (Gasol, J-Smooth, ect) hoping again to draw in an even bigger star later. I'm afraid we'll never see a rebuild anytime soon.
It is a shame Martin's less then perfect defense and the fact that Rose is likely out for most of the upcoming season occurred, because we probably could have traded Martin to them, since they are desperate for scoring outside of Rose. Who knows, we might be able trade them Morris since based off coaching and roster moves, Morey or McHale have no plans to use him.
Impossible. Morey wanted Gasol in the beginning of last season because we had a good supporting roaster. We had Lee, Lowry and Dragic. We can also sign Nene from the free again market at that time.
You guys dream comes true and then we see how difficult it is to rebuild through the draft. If it was so easy to rebuild through the draft the same teams wouldn't be there year after year...
I really like your take on the situation, especially your last sentence. You know this team might not be too bad: PG: Lin, ?,? SG: Martin, Lee, Lamb C: Asik, Patterson?, ? SF: Parsons, Jones, White? Morris PF: Donuts, Patterson I know, a lot of question marks, but might be exciting to watch.
The reason why Morey want Howard now is that he is still YOUNG. He can give one or two years of time to us to rebuild as well as develop our youth to develop (DMo, Lamb, White and Jones *** Probably one or two will be gone if we get Howard.)
If we miss out on both, I think we'll still be too good for a top 3 pick....unless we win the lottery from around #7. Lin - Douglas, Livingston, Machado Lamb - ? Parsons - Jones, White Patterson - Motiejunas (Jones, Parsons) Asik - Smith, Harrellson (Motiejunas) ISOED: Martin I don't see us being in play for a playoff spot, but I can' believe that we'd be in the basement. Maybe I'm just in denial about that. I think we've got playmakers....but as I look at the roster a second and third time, night-to-night consistency and defense (Asik aside) could be very big issues. What killed us the last two years is the lack of a guy that can draw a double team to break down the defense. I don't think anyone within the group is going to give us that out of the box.
PG:Lin/Machado/Douglas SG:Lee/Lamb/Dragic SFarsons/White PF:Montiejunas/TJones C:Bynum/Asik/Smith
exactly. People keep looking at height and saying players can play a certain postition. D-mo is not a center
Oops PG:Lin/Machado/Douglas SG:Lee/Lamb/Dragic SFarsons/White PF:Montiejunas/TJones C:Asik/Smith/Harrelson
