One year old won't be paying attention to stories. Really, 1 year old is too young to worry about what the kid wants. Think of what the parents want. And, speaking as a parent, some plush or plastic piece of crap is the last thing I would want. What I wanted family to get for the first birthday: clothes or books.
Offer to babysit and let the parents have a date night out. Watch cartoons, play with a coloring book or something or take the child to the zoo. I have no children so I have really no idea.
1 year olds love ball pits. This would be a good gift http://www.walmart.com/ip/Step2-Catch-Play-Ball-Pit/17270383
I don't know if its in the budget but I second the ball pit. Wow a bigtexxx post I agree with. Resisting urge to make joke about bigtexxx and the mind of 1 year olds.
Scientifically speaking, you can't remember anything before you were about 3.5. People who claim they remember anything earlier than that is due to photos and retelling of the story over the years to where they actually think it's a memory. Kinda interesting. Regardless, you're correct. The kid will enjoy a cardboard box as much as a $500 toy.
You know I was asking around about this too, when my friend's daughter turned 1 last month. From female friends this is what they told me: Toms
Excellent suggestions. I would go with Ipad though. She probably doesn't have too many friends she can talk/text on the phone at this age.
I'll be going to my friend's one year old daughter's birthday in a few days. Since everyone will probably get her toys and clothes, i think i'll just get her a toddler bath towel, something like this i guess.
y'all are hilarious. Granted I have a boy, and a girl on the way, but when my son was a year old these were his favorite things: ^^ comes in pink if you want Diapers are always good, but are more for the parents than for a toddler. Savings bonds are also good.
