What are the odds Chicago declines to match the reported $25.1M offer sheet? And where does Courtney Lee's bird rights stand?

Idk, we're apparently waiving 2 players tomorrow. We also still hold Dragic's rights and I imagine they'd be renounced before Lee's.

sadly, i think the heavy backlash against Dolan and the Knicks for not matching Lin is going to play in and kill any slight hopes we had of the Bulls not matching Asik

But that's ok...this ended up being the bigger need in the end (esp if you consider the DH12 push that is neverending)

Why would the backlash against matching the most publicized phenomenon in the recent history of the NBA have anything to do with the Bulls matching an underappreciated defensive role player that most people think very little of?

That's exactly why I bring it up.. I don't think it necessarily SHOULD be analogous. But that's human behavior...not always logical. It's going to be "that same contract structure" and "trying to put one over on us just like on the Knicks" (which is the sentiment being pushed by the media's and fans' backlash against the Lin non-matching).

Combine that with the idea they've already planted that Asik's potential and per-minute numbers even warrant consideration of matching...and I think this last bit (Lin/Knicks backlash) puts any doubt that they were gonna match to rest

I wonder whether we could trade Marcus Morris to the Phoenix Suns for say a lottery protected or top 10 protected 1st round pick. Kind of like the Lowr example where a draft pick is worth more than a contract player, and Phoenix would like to reunite the twins + sign every other Rockets player anyway.

It can be changed up until we submit it. Unfortunately it would be wrong of Houston to decrease the offer, and changing the structure to make it more likely to match would make him feel unwanted by the Rockets.

Who said anything about lowering the offer? I'm more interested in what 2 guys are getting dropped: Simpson/Fortson/Leuer/Jordan/Harrelson???

Definitely feels like it since waiving only Smith will not leave them far enough under the cap to sign Asik.

Man more summer games i see and hear about more i dont want to make a trade for Howard or Bynum. but would like to trade Martin, 2pat, & morris for something either pics or a player. and then sign Asik.

    This lineup would be good.

    PG: Lin /
    SG: Lamb /
    SF: Parson / Jones
    PF: Donuts / White
C: Asik / Smith (or FA)

and even if we dont make it to playoffs its okay because we would have good lottery picks. so we can get something done. What do you guys think?

dont want to create a thread, sorry if it's a little off subject, but when/if CHI match our offer sheet to Asik, & assuming we (hopefully?) dont get Howard, what will be our options to fill the void in the paint ? i'd like to target young players who couldnt prove anything yet due to low playing time (Cole Aldrich ?). any FAs left ?

If we wind up getting Asik and pulling off the Howard deal can anyone see them playing extended minutes together with Asik handling the C spot and Dwight at PF? I think that would be a nightmare defensively and valuable on the other end of the court with offensive rebounding. I don't think it would need to be huge amounts of minutes either, if you look at Asik he played 12.1 minutes his rookie year, 14.7 last year and was effective. Now that he is being paid I would imagine we want to get a little more out of him than that.

It does take away minutes from any remaining young PFs we would have on the roster but those guys will still be in the rotation if they earn it.

I guess I am unclear if we will still have the cap space to sign a 2nd max player to entice Dwight to stay if we sign Asik to this contract.

He'll most likely start the year whether Dwight is on the team or not. I'm guessing Dwight will also be eased back in due to his back. So start the year playing 32 min. 24 during the transition and at least 16 after that...
