With the recent talks of Bryce Drew going to the Bulls for maybe a couple of second round picks, I got to wondering, is that all we can get for Bryce? I mean he was the 16th pick in the 98 Draft. I mean at least we got a first rounder for Mirsad - who btw was 2 picks after Drew. I don't know about you guys, but I am hoping to get some sort of substance for Bryce and not just two 2nd rounders that probably will never make the team. (although with the Rockets drafting, you never know for sure) Am I alone in my sentiment? -Turbo
I would say it is always surprising when dealing with the Bulls. But I don't think we could get too much for Bryce. Realistically, what do the Bulls have that we want, that is fair value for Drew? I have heard mention of Artest and Fizer, although Krause would be dubbed Moron of the year if either of those came to Houston for Drew. I would guess picks. Brad Miller would be great, but I don't think they signed him to turn around and trade him 60 days later. And again, an unfair trade in Houston's favor. I am anxious to see where Bryce goes and what we will get. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness." I am not saying I want a player right now that can contribute or even replace Bryce's spot on the bench, I just don't like the idea of trading a former first round pick for second round fodder. If we get a player in some sort of combo deal then great, but as far as picks go, I am looking for at least a first rounder. -Turbo
There is no way I would move Drew for two second rounders,IMHO he is worth more than that even as our third gaurd. ------------------ Question-What is Elton Brand not worthy of carrying? Answer-Franchises Jock
I'm with you Turbo. When I read that, I said to myself I would rather keep him than trade for net to nothing. It's not like he's taking up cap space. Can you believe how Chicago must feel? Getting a STARTER for 2 second rounders. That's a stupid trade on behalf of the rockets. However, if we can somehow seing a deal for someone like Keon Clark or Tyrone Nesby maybe throwing in Los as well. I would definetly go for it. ------------------
Some towels? They got a starter in Maloney for less than that. They didn't even have to pay the guy, since the Rockets already were. 2 picks is too much to give up for Drew. I would be happy with one 2nd-round pick. I could easily see him being outright released. ------------------ "The only problem is I always think of the guitar player from Dokken when I hear his name." -Traj, on the possibility of George Lynch joining the Rockets.
If we send Drew to Chicago plus Carlos Rogers for Hersey Hawkins then we're doing something positive - clearing cap-room!! It'd give us another contract that ends next season and removes us from any obligation to Drew and also removes Carlos' contract. I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility to hope that we could get a conditional first rounder from the Bulls as a "favour" for taking Hersey's contract off their hands. So we would get Hawkins + a 1st rounder (say top 10 protected or something?) And they get Drew + Rogers - which ALSO frees up another 1.4 million dollars in cap room for them THIS SEASON - rumours are they want to pursue Joe Smith - every little bit helps! ------------------
I agree, I'd do that, even if Chicago only includes a 2nd round pick. Drew+Rogers for Hawkins+2nd round pick. I think that is not too unrealistic. [This message has been edited by Det The Threat (edited September 14, 2000).]
The Rockets have to give up a 2nd to Dallas to complete the Langhi trade. 2001 is supposed to be a deep draft, so the Rockets should be grateful for a 2nd and cut the deal. Mango, are you sure it wasn't the other way around? After all, We chose Najera before dallas chose Langhi. And then Dallas gave us Langhi and a future 2nd rounder. At least that's what I thought. ------------------
How does adding more dime-a-dozens to a package give it more quality? All it does is turn the other team away, having to take on more salary. I would feel lucky if we got a 2nd-round pick for Bryce. ------------------ Mo money, Mo problems...

1) The Bulls are in a hold pattern till the Joe Smith deal plays out. For the right price, Smith would be a quality backup for Brand. The Bulls will be competing with the Lakers and Mavs among others for Smith, so it may not be easy. 2) Once the Smith situation clarifies, Glen Rice is the next target for Chicago. 3) If the Bulls sign Joe Smith, they have no need for 'Los. 4) If the Bulls sign ONLY Glen Rice, they have a need for Bryce and 'Los. 5) 'Los is not Joe Smith, but far superior to Micheal Ruffin (IMO). 6) Bryce Drew has value to the Bulls because he is a decent ballhandler and a very good spotup shooter for kick backs from Brand, Mercer, and Rice or Artest. IMHO the Bulls need a distibutor/long range shooter not a slasher at the PG. (For those who want to make the Maloney comparison, Bryce's 3pt% has risen while Maloney's has DECREASED). Like others have said, for just a second round pick - don't bother, let keep Bryce for insurance. How about Drew and 'Los and the better of the Rocks or Bucks(unprotected) 2001 1st rounder for Hersey Hawkins and the Bulls 1st rounder 2001 top 5 protected. WORST case for Chicago - a #6 for a mid 1st in a deep draft. ------------------ Is it Preseason yet??!! [This message has been edited by GATER (edited September 14, 2000).]
I think the real question here should be why do the Bulls want Bryce. from the Rock point of view, if this trade goes down, it will be simply for cap purposes next year. They are thinking about the expenses after this season. We already have two many guards and I think you are underestimating the value of Bryce. He is better than balony ever was. He just doesn't have a spot on the Rocks becouse we are overloaded a point. The Bulls could use him at starter or in a trade with the Lakers for Rice if they cant' get Joe. I am not expert nor do I pretend to be but I could see a conditional first round pick, maybe... ------------------
